Hi everyone,
could someone far more experienced than me explain the issue regarding TT earthing and using metal cased dual rcd boards.
My understanding is that the links between rcds within dual consumer units have no protection therefore a board would become live if they became loose and...
Thank you, it’s the way I’ve written it. We’re on the same page, that’s what I meant with regard to the tails. I agree regarding the cpc which also confused me. I wouldnt have ran swa like that it was more of point to build the story of what I’ve come against. Cheers
Hi all,
This week while wiring a very old farmhouse for heaters I noticed the incoming cu tails were very long, around 20 metres from the fuse and meter which is located in an adjacent farm building to the house.25mm tails (double insulated) leave the meter and go into a kmf switch (sorry I...
Hello all,
I will try and make this a painless as possible but grateful for anyones thoughts.
I am currently contracted to install heaters for an eco company. These dimplex units require a permanent 24hr feed to operate the cpu and fan and a 20a dual feed for the heat fed from a second CU and...

not in isolation no as youre proving the board is dead. For Ins R if the switch is closed your not testing the whole cable so yes. If your asked to test a circuit for safe iso at the light for example to prove its dead on an otherwise live board then yes you would operate switches to prove its dead
yep auto test is ok if i recall. you have to fill out a test sheet as you go so the info you will need is written down and asked for infront of you. practise writing them out and completing shedule of inspections too
1. its not good practise to over lap cables, just looks like a birds nest, sure you dont anyway.
2. No testing takes place after the install and is a separate part of the exam with its own time limit.
You must follow the taught testing process of dead then live testing (cripper) and are watched...
Apologies if this has been covered but If supplying a ev point I think youll need something like 40a (min depending on size of charging point) with no diversity allowed? (not done the course but im sure thats right) so in a normal house you'd probably split the tails into a new small board...
You've asked a question on a very touchy subject in this industry. The answer is, can you actually hold a cert in your hands after 6 weeks or whatever it is that says your an electrican? yes you can because there are courses out there like you've mentioned that offer it but is it the right way...
just to throw in my 2 pence worth, I took on board everything that @SparkyChick sent to me (which I believe is freely available on here and nothing special for me personally) and I found it very useful.
I did it about a month ago now so anyone who wants recent experience feel free to contact me...
