Yes, I'm not fussed about the guarantee actually as it's a second hand heater outside of guarantee. It's just that I'm trying to understand the rationale for insisting they are to be permanently wired in. I can't see any difference that would affect the operation or performance of the heater...
Apparently Dimplex only guarantee their heaters if they are permanently wired in to a fused outlet. If the socket is only about 600mm from the heater and the cable is clipped to the wall or skirting board instead of trailing across the floor then what's the difference? Any thoughts?
John-SJW earlier in this thread in the heat of the moment I made an un-thought-through comment about even current around the ring and was happy to be put right, so you'd be well advised to learn from my experience and pause two marching paces to give thinking time before deciding what is worth...
Yes, understood, although this again would leave no flexibility for future changes, ie would need to expand the ring in order to add extra sockets. I was referring to the practice of making a ring using wagos in the backboxes and wiring in each socket on 2.5 flex so each one would be a spur off...
Your suggestion. That figures. Why on earth would anyone design a RFC with every socket actually a spur? I don't get it. I'm trying not to judge and to remain curious but surely this can't be right? Does the person signing off the design actually know that his guys are doing this? What's their...
Retired-Still-Interested it might still be worth talking to your LABC as the approach varies around the country it seems....it shouldn't, but does.
I'm in similar situation. I've got someone who is on the competent person register coming round tomorrow to quote for new consumer unit and...
That's exactly what I told my course provider when I did my installer and insp&test level3 C&G in 2008, because they persuaded all of us on the course to pay extra for an EAL certificate which included a module on Part P Regs. I then realised it was a waste of money if I wasn't going to join a...
How come there's no mention here of any requirement for a course/qualification that proves knowledge of Part P of Building Regs.?
How does a newly qualified electrician manage to notify building control that the installation meets Part P Regs.? It seems he would have to work for a supervising...
Your right of course, I think I lost the plot frustrated by the other issue. Current will flow according to the rules for parallel conductors and of course at the point of load the resistance of one path will be different to the other.
I think that's everything washed up now....oh sorry there's...
You mentioned in another post that wagos can be a get of jail free card, but if you're taking two spurs off one WAGO terminal then it's you that could be going straight to jail I'm afraid.
A WAGO is not a ring conductor, It's a terminal for goodness sake.
As for balancing loads on a ring...
The regs allow only one unfused spur off the ring socket not two. The unfused spur would have to be in 2.5mm cable not 1.5mm. If you are saying that you've used wagos to expand the ring then I suppose you could take one spur cable from the socket and another from the wagos (which are acting as a...
Exactly, you wouldn't take two spurs from a single point on a ring whether it be a screw terminal JB or a socket, so why think it's ok to take two spurs from one point on the ring just because the multiple connection ports on WAGO terminals make it convenient? A spur from a ring equals three...
Totally agree. It's ok to say "it's always done like that" if backed up with a good reason, but to blindly follow is foolish. It's best to always be curious.
I've recalculated for a 10mm cable and I can use a cooker isolator with socket outlet as even with the 5A added for the socket the load...
