Earth leakage current issue (no load connected)

Thanks Matt. Agree about IR testing however my point on this post is that the meter is still seeing 0.2A in the earth conductor even when there is no potential between L-N in the whole installation. I suspect there maybe current flowing in the system from the DNO's earth and the installations...

    Earth leakage - no load

Visible TNS connection looks good (visible bit anyway). Disconnected EC from CU end and zero reading. Measured 0.1A on bonding conductor to gas though. Water not tested yet. Haven't carried out Ze yet (ran out of time) but will do on next visit. Never experienced before on a domestic - I'm...

    Earth leakage - no load

Called out today by new owners to a domestic 3 bed semi with history of nuisance RCD tripping from day 1 (lived there about a month). TNS. No dual supply. No regular pattern to tripping. Most appliances new. First - Ramp Tested RCD unit with no loads = 25mA (can live with that). Popped...

Earth leakage current issue (no load connected)

I've had exactly the same problem today. Called out to domestic 3 bed semi by new owners with history of nuisance RCD tripping from day 1 (lived there about a month). TNS. No regular pattern to tripping and most appliances new. First - Ramp Tested RCD unit with no loads = 25mA (can live with...

Just had full rewire done, cables very close to surface or coming through skim

Capping (metal or plastic) only protects cables from the plasterers trowel and is not a form of recognised mechanical protection. As long as the cables are in the correct zone and are RCD protected then they are electrically compliant. Not sure about the reg that mentions workmanship tho.

    EXAM SUCCESS TESTING AND INSPECTING

Sound advice from Archy. Dont bother with 'Exam Success' books. All the answers are in GN3. There is no substitute for having a thorough working knowledge of its contents. Pay attention to exact terminology, correct sequences and the use of accurate diagrams. The questions need to read carefully...

Earth requirements for TN-S with RCD 30ma main switch

Agree entirely....it's not. And....yes you do. That's the point. The DNO's just need to acknowledge it.

Earth requirements for TN-S with RCD 30ma main switch

Also, when replacing a CU, unless there is an existing isolator fitted upstream of the DNO supply arrangements prior to the old CU it is not possible to carry out safe isolation with out breaking the seals, pulling the fuse and proving dead. IMO,DNO's need to accept that their guidance on the...
