    Washing Machine in Bathroom

Washing machine in a bathroom is very common practice in Spain. I don't think such an installation was the cause of the massive blackout in Spain and Portugal the other day! Just stupid reliance on so-called green energy from wind and solar.

Sourcing a wall mounted pull light switch

My MK ceiling mounted light switch in the bathroom is original 1975...I doubt the newer ones would last as long

    Grommet strip alternative

If you google this "car panel edge rubber cover strip" You will find a variety of sizes which might do the job. Theye usually have a much wider coverage. Mitre Bond is your friend with these.

What brand power tools (battery) you are happy with ?

DeWalt for me, but then I am not commercial so don't subject them to daily grind. I do have a corded drill, a Black and Decker 750W drill/hammer which I have had for 40 years plus and it's still going strong and I use it a fair bit. Probably the best value is my corded Ferm (remember them, same...

Heads up on a silly priced screwfix offer!

I just installed a new light switch for a neighbour. The original one was an MK, made in England one with the very wide rocker and concealed screws. I found a Schneider Lisse one which was a very good match and in my opinion just a far superior product than the MK. The construction was much...

Ferrules in the middle at Lidl

Some of that stuff in Lidl is amazing! I buy odd things that are cheap and can happily be thrown away when they break...drill sets and hole cutters and cheap screwdrivers etc. Treat them as disposable...but you'll find they last far longer than you expect. Kinda hoping to find my next wife in...

Right lads, what do I need?????

Just a thought...even if there is no requirement for smoke/heat alarms CO etc surely you would want them for peace of mind? I'd go Scottish on that and install Aico wireless/RF ones. No hardwiring required and add extras if you wish later, plus you don't need to decide on the exact placement of...

    EICR bonding connection not visible/accessible

OK, this is a bit off-piste, but bear with me... I live in a flat in a block of 6. Originally, all the flats were served with water from a tank on the roof. Many years ago it was deemed essential that at least the main tap, in the kitchen, was served directly from the mains, not a tank. Thus...

    Free cctv installation courses ?

I've done a couple and they were fairly straightforward. Standalone are easy, but linking into a network is trickier. If you use the same brand then the app sorts it out for you. I hate the idea of being dependent on an app for anything, but that's the way nowadays. I bought the same make...

Really need to chat with one of the Scottish members who know their Parts B & F for Scotland

Yes, whereabouts in Scotland? As @littlespark said Building Control should be monitoring this, especially if Listed Building Consent is required for any of the works. I have found that BC are not very interested per se, but the Listed guys and gals are usually sh something hot. My advice is to...

Are Quinetic still regarded as the best kinetic switches?

From one Jock to another... Yes, switch colours/finishes are not as wide, but then I'm not a fan of fancy finishes. As for placement of receivers, well I have found that in the loft is usually fine, so out of sight is ok in the average home or small industrial unit.Grouping receivers together in...

    VAT or no VAT?

Much good advice here. It all depends on your turnover, but if you can avoid VAT registration, do so. The VAT man is the enemy. Especially if you are a sole trader. You do not want the VAT man at your door under any circumstances! Sorry...that's my doorbell! Sh*t...
