Bit worrying guys are doing the inspection and testing of appliances without a grasp of resistances!!!! Thankfully all at my company are maintenance electricians.

Your top test results look good, the only thing I would add is running the load test with the power supply plugged into the device and some load on it if possible. Is this the same supply you tested yesterday with the high leakage current? Having a look at the figures underneath I would drop...

No the reduced voltage IR test is deemed safer for IT equipment and will be fine for your DC power supplies you are currently testing.

Hubsy, I think the europa does a 250V insulation test, I would be inclined to try that to see what the reading is? It does say in the COP that sometimes due to large capacitors in SMPS's you might get a low reading, maybe try this and see as I would be interested to see the results!

sample form, pat testing from 4th edition required please

I don't think it is illegal to use the model forms in the COP, not so sure about distributing them though?

Lorna Thanks for the reply, the changes you are talking about are what I was looking for. I am basically looking for software that would record each process as designated in the COP for the formal visual checks when they are made. Please keep me informed on its progress!

Hubsy Looking at the figures you have above technically the power supply would fail on the leakage test. Page 96 of the cop has the leakage values and as the charger would be portable it would fail as over the limit of 0.75mA. What do you all think? What tester are you using, I would be...

What is the scanning equipment you are on about, what does it do does the scanner dock with the base station to charge? I personally wouldn't check the base station as it is 12V DC or the scanner as it must be a 12V battery?

Good luck with that my firm thankfully bought the books although I had my own copy anyway. No t too bad after I had pointed out the company they had in doing the testing were clowns which has been proven with some of the faults we have found and no fixed testing by them also!!!

Thanks for the reply! Sorry to pester you again but say for arguments sake you are adding a lead to the program with a visual frequency of 6 months and a combined inspection of 12 months. Would you create the asset in the program with a six month testing frequency then fill in the relevant test...

I would still test it as a class 1 item, is there a DC jack you can run a 200mA earth continuity test on sometimes you will get continuity on the end of the jack.. If not then I would mark it as no accessible earthed parts then IR test it as normal. I have a dell charger and can definitely get...

Quick question for the SimplyPat's users on here, does the program keep a history of an appliances test results for you to look back at?

What is it your looking for as there are are other changes in the fourth edition other than the test form? From memory the test form has a new layout to the third edition one but I would need to dig out my third edition book which has been long ditched to see the exact changes!!

    Fuse Size

In the case above a manufacturer flex of 0.75 should have a moulded plug fitted and should have a length under 2M and this is allowed to be fused at 13A under BS1363

    Pat testing

You will need to know firstly the size of cable and length used to supply the appliance to calculate the resistance of the cpc. The other option is to measure the resistance of the cpc of the length cant be accurately determined. As the other guys have said when testing the fixed appliance the...
