    Although they were wired in two strings originally, they were connected in the isolator to a two core swa so in fact only wired back to the inverter as one. I think therefore there'll be no problems with the inverter taking the voltage.

    I'd be tempted to break out the concrete one side of that drain, lay the swa in some plastic ducting, then concrete over. You may find that existing concrete breaks out really easily, and at least then the cable can be withdrawn/replaced easily in the future.

    Ah, but some trades like to use 100mm screws when a 20 is all that's required ;-) I once had a fault while testing a new installation, turned out to be the fault of the plasterers who picked up the Paslode and fired 50mm brads into my cables while fixing edge bead.

    I have a similar situation whereby I need to light an indicator lamp when the outside lights are left on. Problem is, the outside lights comprise of 2 x 5w GU10's. I assume this means passing the wire through the hole around 18 times, is that correct, and doable with a 1mm cable?
