Well I hope the advise I’ve given him helps. As I’m sure your awear, there could be a possibility he could damage his new digital stat if the wiring is incorrect.
To me, it looks like you only have the switch wire there, live in and live out. Most people don’t realise you also need a neutral for most stats to work properly. Looking at your new unit, it looks like the wiring diagram is showing you need a live and neutral for it to work, I could be wrong...
