Old topic but to clear things up it isn't as generic as diesel is a hazardous area install Ex rated equipment.
A hazardous area is risk assessed and zoned according to the probability, frequency and duration of an explosive gas atmosphere.
It isn't down to you as an installer to risk assess...
ArmaDlock I fit onto my vans.

There not cheap but they work, had attempted break ins before and they could not get past the lock. Bent the door right back but the lock...
I think it needs to be a fixed lanyard.
You can usually buy them from the place doing the course too, may be too late to arrange that now though.

Is it necessary to keep the earthing within the building separate for the machine from the main supply earth?. As I understood, an independent earthing system for the generator was required but not throughout the installation.
As Dave mentioned that wouldn't be possible anyway due to...
The machine will not be linked to the mains Pete as it does not have the capacity for it, so they are looking to supply this from a generator. It will run a couple of times a week. The previous owners used the set up and there looking to do the same. A main supply upgrade is not possible for...
We are digressing a bit here, I didn't really want to go into earthing as that isnt in question. But the earthing systems would be interconnected, they would be connected as you say through the extraneous parts, cpcs etc but they would also be interconnected at the MET, where the generator and...
Thank you for the reply,
The generator earthing would be independent of the main earthing as per the British Standard. I mean the generator suitability and earthing are not in question within this thread.
Yes I understand what synchronisation is, I usually have experience with it on sites...
Simple specification: A machine inside a small factory is to be supplied from a generator set. This will not be linked to the main supply. The generator is to supply the machine only.
Im looking for regulations and advice on this. Ive looked through 515 and in particular 515.7.1, a generator...
The neutrals for the circuits you are supplying need to be connected back to the UPS separately. So you would need to split them from the none UPS neutral bar.
Did you not need to test the voltage at the DOL starter?.
By only testing at the motor you haven't proved that the motor may not start up as it is controlled by the starter. The contactor was open so the motor would be dead, but you need to prove the starter isn't going to operate.

Was getting about 50p a kilo and £1 odd for low grade the back end of last year. So there can be quite a difference but not worth the bother stripping it on smaller cables IMO

Just scrap it as SWA. I do.
We don't strip anything under 10/16mm and just scrap the rest as it is. Still get a bit of money for it, better than a kick in ballacks.

Depends how your using the word standard Dave.
But confirm with manufacturers data that the unit is self testing, GS38 states that to be complaint, the self test system is listed there as a type of 2 probe tester. This gives compliance with EAWR. A system which is safe and compliant.
But the...
We do similar for exhibition trailers. We carry out dead tests and put a separate page with each certificate basically saying that earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing must be done on each connection to site.
That goes with the trailer.
It's how portacabins come.
We buy the paper...
If the voltage indicator has 2 forms of indication, ie sound and visual and is classed as self testing then a proving unit is not necessary.
So I was taught on my 2391 some years ago and I've stuck with that since.
