Hope someone can help, Basically i'm just getting into heavy industrial and when i have been opening various panel's and motors i can't get my head around the actual terminating of star,delta from the panel to the motor as they seem to move L1,L2,L3 to L2,L3,L1. Any ideas?

Evening all,
Got a 3 phase motor that needs to run on a single phase supply. I am probably talking (NO SWEARING) but I vaguely remember a few years ago a guy shorting out two of the phases on a motor and it worked on a single phase supply.

Can someone please explain to me how a 3 phase star and delta connection works. I get the fact that the 3 phases are carrying a current and you can get 240 or 400V from them. I have star and delta diagrams in front of me but the ones i am looking at only have 3 lines/conductors whatever you want...
iam about do 2392,2391 and nvq level 3 at delta electrical training ltd .is it worth doing in this private institute? what about quality of training?

i have a panel with 2 no star delta pumps 39 kw 63 amps flc can anybody size cable for me length of run approx 100mts 1no pump is on standby but could start if pressure drops the cable has to be afire rated swa clipped to a tray running through an underground carpark the panel has 50 amp motor...
Can anybody advice on cable size for 250Kw star delta motor, star delta starter supplied with 240mm 4 core SWA protected by 500a fuses. Would like to keep cables at 240mm but terminal box looks a bit small for 2 x 240mm SWA cables motor is rated at 400v 430Amp
