My mother's house was built in 1962. The outlets in the upstairs bedrooms are all 2-prong on 15 amp circiuits. My brother wants to install window air conditioning units in the bedrooms, problem is the units are 3-prong. Easy fix, he says - just use a 3-prong to 2-prong adapters. These adapters have a wire hanging off the bottom that you attach to the screw in the middle of the outlet cover plate. Is this a safe plan?
