GMES

I thought this would be one for the arms and I don't want to drag up old stuff, but I have noticed that we are all getting really short tempered on the forum and I most certainly include myself in this statement. Glennspark's ban got me thinking, that maybe we need to bite our tongues a little bit and try and remember the early days when we started off in this trade and knew bugger all, but maybe thought that we did.
Now before anyone starts shouting in protest! I am not talking about the Electrical Trainee who immediately go self employed armed with no knowledge but a nice shiny sticker, this in my view is dangerous, but I am talking about new posters in general who ask sometimes perfectly fair questions or maybe even know the answer but just fancy a chat and they can get shot down pretty quick and hard sometimes.
Maybe it's time for spreading the love and peace to all members and chill out a bit, I'm sure the Mods and Admin could do with a rest.
One last thing I don't want to start a battle and wind anybody up, who then in turn ends up with a Ban, so stay calm and carry on

Just as a matter of curiosity, where’s the thread that got Glenn the ban?

Not sure if it was anyone in particular, the last one I read was on a thread about lock off kits, it seemed to tip him over the edge. I always enjoy Glenns threads and replies, but I think some of the recent threads have just got to him a bit more than usual.

Yeah I think your right about us getting grumpy, seeing thousands of posts about DIYers asking how to change a Dist board has got us all worn out and acting like school children, I will definitely try to chill out and take it all in my stride, a valid point and justified.

I was out last night and missed it all so cannot comment, however now Sintra has confirmed the ban is only for 2 weeks it is no biggie IMO.

How long was Glenn banned for last time?
Why don't you ask the team direct if you really want to know about that? I have no idea and suspect no one else really knows the truth about that either, it was over turned in 4 days I believe but I have no idea what the real facts are .

Bloody hell MDJ I wonder if he is lurking in the shadows as we speak! I am going to be watching for new members with dodgy names joining over the weekend.

He's easy to spot, he'll have a WW1 ---- airplane as his picture! :-)
That's if you miss his obvious posting style!!! :smilielol5:

and i'll be watching out for the red baron.

Good post, I am a grumpy old man at 25! I admit I do go off on one at some posts but I am more than happy to hand out advice if I feel it's going to the right person. I like to think that I give apprentices on here a good bit of advice. I think we all have set members in our head who we know are asking genuinely and some who just do not have a clue!

LOL. update is that plumber has altered it all round. he's got a stat. with a floor probe that can't be fitted as the floor is all screeded and tiled. he's wired it all up and it don't work. it's a complete F.UP.

Did anyone even ask him to calm down, before smacking him with the ban hammer? A little respect goes both ways?

(Not that i care that much)

Also, I think that DIY forum is enough to tip anyone over the edge, the forum may as well rename as "Screwfix"

Lovely stuff !!

Is your bit ok though??

( or should I say "our bit". )

Whatever .. I don't see the need for this floor stat - the room stat should do what's required.

Think about it - the UHF's job is to keep the occupants of the room warm - not whatever is under the floor. The people in the room are above the floor and so is the room stat.

The way I look at it is....the ones with a grain of sense can be told its not for those without electrical knowledge, others won't listen so most that can be done is to advise them to get a spark involved.
Slightly different if its someone who only does say heavy industrial 3 phase and just wants to check their thinking and has the test kit......

I've never understood the resentment shown to be honest. I'm a memeber of a VW forum and I am yet to see a mechanic get grumpy about someone giving out advice. It seems that the general anger towards the way the industry is going is taken out on some poor bloke who just wants to change socket covers and gets some terminology wrong. The help given on this forum has been absolutely invaluable to me, but I have noticed a bit of mob mentality from some members over the last few months. I dont visit as often as I used to, but thats more to do with my depth of knowledge now as opposed to any bad feeling. In fact the only thing that annoys me is the bloomin messsage at the top telling me to post lol!!

Being grumpy takes time and training. I’ve been perfecting the art since I was an apprentice.

Now I’m involved elsewhere I’ve had to calm down a bit.

It worries me with some of the questions and the advice given.
