I'm finding it difficult to ascertain if the blue 3 core 2.5mm artic flex my company has used to make some 25m and 50m extension cables (commando plug) intended for events, usually outdoor.

It seems HO7RNF is listed as a more appropriate cable for this sort of thing.

Anyone got any experience with these types of cables?

The simple answer is don't use it for events, H07RNF is the standard and wont get questioned.

Using Arctic these days will often get you labelled as cowboys and probably raise quite a few questions.

Agreed ,same can be said about Sy ,no one connects it properly,& externally it’s not allowed, but still used.

Put simply, think of how easy it is to strip and prepare PVC sheathed flexible cable, versus TRS cable. The sheath on 'arctic' cable tears quite easily, which is why it is unsuitable to be used outdoors under the scope of BS7909, for other than 110V centre tapped (reduced LV) systems.

As for this 'artic' cable that's getting mentioned, presumably that's something to do with big trucks, so is probably quite strong :p

Artic cable is not recomended where flexibily and weathering is required.
here's a few regs for you to get your teeth into. HO7RN-F is a flexible weather resistant TRS
