nice one lenny very useful to be able to see it all on one page and not have to trawl through regs

I have to confess, I read that post with a strong Welsh lilt fella - must be Friday, and nearly beer o'clock! Nope - five hours yet, honest!

I've almost finished the exel version of the above.......just need to add hyperlinks to regs pages for refernece etc and we should be ready to go......I hope!!

Thanks Lenny. I'll print it off for my apprentice. You make it all seem so simple. Looking forward to seeing the spreadsheet.

Thanks for the useful template Lenny. I was thinking about building the a cable calc spreadsheet myself about a year ago but never got around to it. Did you ever finish yours? I notice that you last mentioned it over a year ago. I would love to see it finished or not and I think I may be able to give some reasonably constructive feedback.

Of course some people may regard the manual method as now being made redundant as it's been made very easy to select cables using calculators and Apps. It may take longer to do the calcs but it's still essential for anyone studying electrical installation to get to grips with the nuts and bolts of cable selection by referring to the regs and using the original formulas. After all, you'd still need to do it this way at college and for exams.

I think that the pdf Lenny posted above is a very useful guide for this purpose. Anything that helps demonstrate how it all works is a good idea in my book.

On calculators- I think that cable selection Apps / Calculators are a useful way of checking your own calculations, especially if you're not to hot at maths (like me), and you can quickly see how changing a cable size or protective device alters the results. Use the Apps to check your workings. See thread about Apps- http://www.electriciansforums.net/e...droid-iphone-apps-out-there-2.html#post585367
