I've been talking to Chris Kitcher (author of electrical education books btw) via PM and today by phone. He is willing to support the Trainee Section and will get his publishers to send me a couple of his books to give away as prizes!

Once I have received proof of ID, Admin will grant him Mentor access to the TS. Ok he has only just become a member and only has a few posts, but a man of this caliber in the TS would be great. All I ask is that you dont rip him to bits please gents lol. If he is willing to give us free books for competitions I think we should play nice with him, well, in the TS anyway.

Just giving you guys a heads up instead of just seeing a Mentor with a hand full of posts popping up (once proof is received). Thoughts and opinions gents?

Just been chatting with him again, Mrs M says we were talking like best buds lol. What a rally nice bloke. Says he does not have much spare time on his hands but he will pop in every now and again. He will tell his publishers to send me some books tomorrow and he is also going to send me his latest book which is out in December, I offered to proof read it for him pmsl :rofl:

He was the course tutor when I did the 238x (can't remember the number) course.

Dont think he is that type of person. Very humble about the mistakes in his books and explained the reasons why to me. I have offered the help from forum members to proof read his books before publication btw, lets see how that may turn out???

I really hope he becomes an active member of the TS and the PV lounge, he is an inspector for NIC and also has written books on the subject. He may only pop up a few times a year but we will see.

Thanks for your support gents, a week of PM's and a few phone calls has paid off. Cross fingers that he gets involved and posts up every few weeks????

he is a great addition IMHO, but editing someones post regarding him IMO is appalling, if I owned the site I would remove the MOD concerned, I hope Marvo comes on soon to restore unity here, if you say banana and a certain team member doesn't like it you will have your post removed.

Okay, well I now know what this is all about, well I think, I assume I was going to get banned last weekend because I Gave UKES rail a drumming down,an --- raping, one or more of the Admins decided to ban me for 3 months and you did what you could to stop it happening, I assume it was a thread in the staff forum, you and possibly Glenn, (GMES) stood by me and tried to stop it happening?? well, If what I have just typed is correct then I applaud you and Glenn for trying to keep me here, I would be very suprised and in fact disappointed if however Andy and Sintra was prepared to ban me for 3 months for the posts concerned regarding UKES Rail. I am honestly humbled by your act, I am very grateful, but it has nothing to do with removing a post regarding a new trainee mentor when I didn't actually do anything regarding bad posting. I have realised you and other team members have put yourself out to stop me getting a ban, it is appreciated and something I will not forget, I will for the record Paul tell you officially I am not attacking you, oh and I suck dummies? no just breasts lol :biggrin:

I’ve never seen any of this guy’s books. Someone mentioned electrical theory, is that the theory needed for BS7671 or does he include more beside?

I’ve little time for BS7671 as it is so flawed and totally out of touch with my previous work.
Electrical theory interests me as now I’m retired I’ve time to spend on it. It’s also got my arse out of the fire many times in the past especially when trying to workout why something is happening in a process.

You’re going to have to choose a field you really want to study. There are no general books that cover everything.

To give you an idea
Motors
Transformers
Distribution protection systems
Instrumentation
Process control systems

I’m sorry to say the list is endless.

Like DaveSparks I still refer to a 1930’s electrical encyclopaedia. The laws of physics don’t change, unlike the IET’s regs.

Mike, what you said last weekend deserved a 1-3 month ban by the rules. NONE OF THE STAFF wanted that, and I mean none of us, Andy and Steve included but we was all in a difficult place at the time. An alternative plan was put forward and then implemented. The plan worked and the person baiting others got banned for life again.

All the staff worked together to keep a member worth a 10,000 times more than that little pr1ck. Admin and Mods know the rules but we also know the forum members. Some how it all worked out with the time and effort of staff behind the scenes??? Everything should be now calm on the forum.

I think CNE (AKA PME) was introduced long before that but it was nothing to do with the IEE.

The idea was pinched from the septics by the regional electricity boards to save money.
