Been doing a rewire for a contractor who I haven't worked for before. Seems like an OK guy even if he's had a bit of a sense of humour bypass. Was working on getting most of my first fix etc done the week before last, was on another job last week so they could get things sorted, and was meant to start 2nd fix and first fix on the kitchen and outbuildings that were being built. All the work I've done, I havent seen any plans or drawings of any kind. It's just been 'oh, a socket there, a socket about there, a TV point over there' and have had to recut a few chases because I put things in the 'wrong' places as if I can read his mind from his throwaway instructions. Okay, no problem, it's annoying but I can work with it.
So I turn up today (bearing in mind it's been a heavy weekend and I REALLY didn't want to get out of bed) and he says 'Oh, I was going to ring you. Theres no point in you being here today because the kitchen isn't ready'. Oh you were going to ring me, were you? Well you didn't. And now I'm here.
'I could get on with the second fix in the other rooms'.
'Oh, well, the plasterer has skimmed the room but hasn't filled any of your chases (has anyone else seen this before? I don't understand why he's done this???) so that's not ready either. It'll be a couple of days'.
So wednesday then?
'Maybe Wednesday'.
OK fella, I tell you what, I'LL ring YOU on Wednesday to see how you're getting on, not that organising the site is your responsibility or anything. In the meantime, I guess I'll just go home and finger myself.
As I say, nice enough guy, and apparently it's all down to a customer being a pain in the rear, but a phonecall would have been nice. Rant over (?)
