Hdmi upscaler

Hi All,

Re my Sony Bravia 42 inch tv viewing Sky plus, would there be any point in me buying an HDMI upscaler for 1080p?
Seen them on e blag for about 35 pounds and they claim massive improvements to picture quality if fitted in line between Sky scart and HDMI lead to the telly.
Any experience lads?
Worth the cost?

Upscaling does improve the appearance of a picture. Unfortunately I have no experience of standalone units, only dtt boxes with it inbuilt.
HD transmissions supply more detail. You have to be realistic and appreciate that if that detail is not transmitted (a sd broadcast) then you will never get the same detail as from an hd broadcast even with electronic tinkering.
Therefore the best way to proceed would be to phone sky customer diservices and find out how much an upgrade to an hd sky plus box would be and putting the £35 you have not spent on the upscaler towards the cost of the increase in subscriptions (£10pm).
To directly answer is it worth the cost depends on the efficacy of the unit you are buying and, unless you can get feedback from someone who uses exactly the same unit that you are proposing to use on the same tv, you will have to suck it and see. Are you dissatisfied with your sd pictures? Do you have a spare £35 and not want to pay sky extra for an hd subscription? If yes to both then go for it and let us know
