So gets a shout today to check out a tripping circuit in a student halls we look after. Gets there and the staff are vague but somebody had been at it over the weekend and done a temp fix. Ok I says and off I trot to have a look. Gets the cover off the single phase split board and find 2 x 10mm cables one in each terminal at the top and the other ends in the bottom. Thus linking out the rccb! Immediately bumped the main switch off and removed them.re energised the power and no problem. 80A 30ma I'm thinking earth leakage but I'll get a better look at it tomorrow. How far should I destroy this punter that put the vague temp fix in or is this an acceptable way of dealing with faults these days?!

You should have photographed it and be making noises in their direction. You (or your company) may of got the blame for this had it gone unnoticed ............

Nah they don't it's a multi trade contractor that provides a 24hr call out service so it was a night time call over the weekend. Should still be able to find out if the contractor will reveal who it was.
