Hey guys

This is a 2 bedroom semi.

I need an outdoor socket installed on the piv I have red marking.

The nearest socket is behind the wall I have marked red in the living room. The other socket is across the room opposite.

What will be ehe best way to route the cable from here to where I want to install the socket ? Would i need to drill ij the joists etc ?

Would a 2.5mm twin and earth work?

There are a lot of things to consider. The first one is what do you intend to plug into the socket?
From the box thing plugged into the extension lead there, i'd guess an EV granny charger....

Standard IP66 socket might not cut it.... but might last longer than that extension lead!

Is it a wood floor or solid?

Is the fuseboard on an outer wall? it might be cleaner to drill through from there and clip it externally round to the front door.

That was what made me ask. A proper EV point would be more suitable if that is the case. Granny chargers are only recommended for occasional use where an EV point is not available, not to routinely charge the car at home. I've seen 2 now that were drawing 16A from the supply.

That is a mode 2 charger and should really supplied from a dedicated circuit for long term use with a 13A socket identified as "ev" for this specific purpose.

I’m pretty sure that’s why the OP wants to fit an outside socket…. To avoid using a general socket and extension lead…

Budget mustn’t be able to stretch for a 7kW charge point, which would be much preferred

This is correct.

It's for a granny charger for occasional charging . At this moment in time we can't get a 7kW charger.

The floor is wooden floorboards. The fuseboard is under the staircase against an external wall.

If it is for regular use you need to go down the route of a dedicated circuit with a suitable socket.

Yeah I might just add another radial as the existing ring covers 2 floors in the house (2 bed) apart from the kitchen.

As my consumer unit is under the staircase on external wall side. Shall I just add a 13A switched FCU near there? For the outdoor socket?

Why would you add a spur?
Do you have a spare way if so this is notifiable to Building Control.

I'm adding a dedicated radial for a socket outside. I thought it would be a good idea to have a Switched fcu inside to control the socket from inside. Also the 13a fuse will give it extra safety .

I wasn't aware of that . I'm sure the sparky who installed this CU would have informed building control about the spare way.

If you put a new circuit in then you must notify Building Control unless you are in Scotland.
Unless the socket is liable to unauthorised use I see no need for additional points such as a spur adding another 13A fuse serves no purpose. If it needs isolation I would fit a 20A double pole switch.
Does this spare way have 30ma RCD protection and is it type A?
