This week in work I have been asked if 240v L-N, L-E and 0v N-E are correct readings?

Why does a smoke detector I have installed for someone not stop beeping?

How do I connect up this ballast (when there is a wiring diagram printed on the front of it)?

All from an apprentice trained fully qualified electrician with 2391.

Is anybody else surprised?

I'm going to have to have that one explained to me tbh, unless you were burning the place down at the time.

or was it a wired unit with the power off or something?

No not at all, considering the standard of training these days, well I believe you

That could also be wishful thinking on his part, unless of course you've seen his original certs first hand!! lol!!

Mains powered battery backup, but you need to install the battery or remove the tab on commissioning. It's really basic stuff and is there to read in the instructions.

I was very surprised to be asked these types of question from someone who quite frankly should know better, or have the ability to work it out. I like the dude though so didn't give him a hard time or anything....but

Ir reminded me of another soon to be qualified electrician who came up to me and said 'is it me or is my battery powered drill running the wrong way (holding it up to show me)?

When I reached over and pressed the button in front of the trigger, he was quite embarrassed! Also the same dude told me to Jeff off when I asked him why he was about to drill a 20mm hole in trunking with a 25mm hole saw.

I wish I was making this up!
