I have been (probably un-notably) absent from the forum for a bit, but read with amusement the recent thread regarding suitability of a 4mm conductor on a rod (TT system). Reason for amusement - I know the OP and he's not a sparky, electrical engineer or even currently employed. What a load of tripe he was posting, he's a DIYer. And k'b head.

Interesting post he put regarding the blagging a engineering job in a hospital.... my old man joined the management team several years ago and couldn't believe the incompetence down right lazy attitude and lack of basic knowledge the existing in house Electricians and Engineers had including those pushing papers and designing...... over the last 3 or 4 yrs a system has been put in that has weeding out all the blaggers and seen them handed their notices as their incompetence was exposed when asked to take all relevant upgrade exams as well as tight interview schemes to show you are worthy of the position you are been payed for.... They sacked that many that they actually struggled to find anyone educated and competent enough to fill the positions.

I can only guess he is one of the casualties of this tightening up of the system :)

I found that when going for an interview with JLR (Jaguar Land Rover), they wanted to see my Indentures, certs of craftsmanship etc. a friend who did his apprenticeship at Goodyear followed by 30+ years as a fitter didn't have the correct paperwork (Goodyears fault) didn't get a job.
Also, during first week induction we all had to take a drugs test, failure was loss of job.

The hospitals are not so bad they really are looking for experience, competence and set you up some problems to solve and ask all sorts of questions relating to you proposed job in hand, they understand that alot of the older generation are extremely skilled but just lack paperwork for which they send you on the appropriate catch up course. My old man does some of the interviews and he can't believe the level of numptyness that walks through the door even though they have all the relevant paperwork......

Nice one Darkwood, we're just going through this process at the moment. I can't say where, of course, as they maybe contributors to this forum.
Needless to say we are upgrading Numptyville to a proper estate......
