Sourcing a vehicle.

Hi. I am just about to start out on my own. I would be grateful for any advice on types of small vans I should look at buying, or avoid buying! as a Domestic Installer, and also, if anyone in the South Devon area, or even outside, knows of any good places or can recommend anywhere to source one.

transit connect, VW transporter (but watch out for dodgy gearboxes) or anything made in japan. have a look on ebay and in the auto trader. also, if there is one near you, a company that resell repossessed vans.

If you look online or in some publications you can pick up ex bt or British gas vans or even sometimes ex aa ranging from fiesta and corsa upto combo or connect then transits and vivaros etc

Had the Peugeot variant, wasn't impressed then turbo blew out of blue common fault apparently since left that firm got a transit connect seems better

If you value your back, make sure the van has a side door, otherwise you could be off work with acute back pain.

To be honest you don't need anything bigger than a Suzuki Carry (if you can live with the image), or even a Berlingo (not sure about your comment Lofty). If you want to go for a Transit then chose the Connect, which comes in a Berlingo size and also one that's a little taller (excellent van, if only it had two passenger seats). The top sparky van I would have to say, if you can distinguish yourself from a corner shop man, is a Toyota Hiace. It's got the length for the trunking and not overtly tall either. As for sourcing then it all depends on you budget, I normally see a friend who fixes salvaged vehicles but be waned, you will not sell what you've bought so decide carefully.
