Not long qualified need some advice ! Im not long qualified, probably been less than a year and worked with the same company. Now I am doing work on my own, rewired a kitchen there but I'm used to my boss doing the testing or signing it off, I don't have city and guilds so what do I do ? Will I have to get some one in to test it or is testing and certificates 100% necessary ?

Why was this thread closed before the OP had a chance to answer?? As far as i could see this guy was talking about not having C&G 2394/5 not that he didn't have any electrical qualifications. I guess we'll never know now.

So the argument for closing this thread, was that the OP didn't have the qualifications to go into peoples property to undertake electrical work!!!! So pray tell me what qualifications or the like, does a 17 day whizz kid have to do exactly the same thing, but hey, for some reason they are actually welcomed here with open arms??

This place is going to become a ''Sterile'' site, if threads keep on getting closed or deleted on a whim, ...in future let's give the OP's the opportunity to answer any such concerns rather than arbitrarily closing the thread prematurely....

It's quite scary that someone supposedly qualified does not know the requirements for initial verification. Pity it was closed although I too see Marvo's point in doing it, it would have turned into a "feeding frenzy" very quickly.

So members don' even get a chance to make a comment or ask questions now, the thread just get's closed after one perfectly normal observation from a member??

We'll never know now one way or the other, if it would have turned into a feeding frenzy or if the OP would have come back with an explanation ..... that's all already been decided for you all!!

Dan doesn't like any negative posting here, unless your going to show a bunch of flowers in a reply he would prefer it if no posts were made.

Hum... not sure that is correct. He needs "traffic" and posters to get up the ratings.

If we all sat back and ignored all of these posts, the ratings would fall off quickly.

He tells his sponsors how many visitors/contributors he has!

Might as well go to the pub or the 3000 club and talk between ourselves then.

well he has made it quite clear only the "be nice" posts are welcomed here, just read the reply box, nuff said.

That works 2 ways.

As I stated on many occassions the OP's set themselves up for a fall, don't answer basic questions, then throw their teddies out of their prams!

I felt it was better for the thread to be closed and the OP to come back to admin with clarification that they were not acting to expose a customer to the chance of electrocution. A kitchen rewire is one of the highest draw, most frequent use areas of a property with reasonably high risk; to install this without inspection or testing and power it up is irresponsible to say the least.

If they were acting safely then the thread could be reopened.

Are we getting slightly pre menstrual boys??, I kno we all have strong opinions and every one of you stand by your ccconvictions, but when you all start, your like a bunch of auld women on pension day!!. And I know most is justified as we are here reading a lot of the drivel too!!, but we still have to try and keep the forum friendly to new people, otherwise it will end up just being you lot on here!, and no one wants this place turning on to a rest home for miserable cantankerous sparks ! :-)

I kno it feels like censorship, but we do have to at least try and find a happy medium. I've moved this to the arms as it's hardly welcoming to new members, I hope you all don't object. I'm not really bothered about what people think or say on the subject, as long as it's not in public view

We do, and normally when we get 3 pages in and we haven't got a straight answer out of the Op's we close the thread and explain that they are wasting peoples time.

Mate I'm pretty sure a lot of lads don't realise that moderating is a fine line between intervening where necessary and trying not to interfere with threads where possible.

As this is now in the arms:
I asked for the thread to be closed because I could not keep civil in answering it and we have been asked to report threads that show the OP is acting dangerously.
Oh yes and I happened to be in a bad mood at the time anyway so this may have affected my response as I usually try and respond at least reasonably.

I was only using that as a descriptive, if it's 10 posts of people banging their heads then we step in there's no real measurement.

Mate I understand where your coming from, but I think your missing my point,

We step in, you all get your knickers in a twist

We leave you all to it where possible, knickers still twisted!

The issue is that we can't let threads get carried away and hostile as dummies get flung!

Then it's a shame the same thing isn't applied across the board to ALL the drivel and ultra basic testing questions on kitchen rewires etc, asked by the 17 day whizzers and electrical trainee's, ...but it's NOT is it!!

I'm almost sure the OP was talking about not having I&T qualifications, not that he didn't have other electrical qualifications.... Closing a thread so quick without giving the OP a chance to clear things up one way or the other is not in the best interests of anyone and not least the forum as a whole!!

I don't think that more moderator intervention is the answer.

Surely the best 'encouragement' for an OP to answer questions would be if the rest of us stopped throwing in our two-penneth until the questions are answered.

It's no skin off my nose if an OP doesn't get HIS question answered. If he gets no answers, he'll just be talking to himself and eventually go away.

Admin are trying to keep the site open and do not tend to act until things get out of hand.
In this case they were acting on request from a member having a bad day.
As the OP has the chance to ask admin to reopen the thread then it may not be permanently dead.

From what i remember of you're response on the thread, i can't see anything untoward at all... You asked questions, made
observations, and remarks all civil from what i can tell. Then you go and ask for the thread to be closed FFS, so the OP can't respond too or answer any of your concerns??

Perhaps i should try the same thing the next time i see a badly written post by an obvious fast track wannabe that knows jack shyte, asking what he should do next. eg, ...request the thread/post to be closed immediately because i'd have trouble keeping my replies civil!!! Jesus!!!!

sounds like you're suffering from PMT. Eng.

Now that suprises me Richard, I didn't know you ever got annoyed, I always felt you were the calm reasoning voice here.

I am not sure you would have enough time to post anything with all the admin requests you would have to make!

We all have off days at times.:veryangry2::angry::angry_smile:
I try to be reasonable mostly.

Heavy handed modding? glad I don't do it, they cannot win either way really, they make mistakes but imagine the chaos here without them lol

Well most members would be banned for starting a thread about another member, if he had posted that as a reply to you in a thread then no issue at all, anyhow all in good spirit IMO, providing he realises he will get it back lol

damn threads are closing faster than water tight doors on a nuclear sub.
