Connecting sink into toilet pan pipe; Plumbers Forums

I have a steel beam that prevents me from getting my ensuite 32/40mm waste below floor so am considering running 1m along the wall and into the inwall toilet pan connector (90mm diameter) before it goes below floor.

I know a branch T is better (as it cannot block) but I cannot fit it in, so would it be a bad idea to fit an equal T (pic below)and reduce it down to a 32/40mm? Would the normal T incur blockages from the soil waste streaming past? My thoughts are that it is only a 40mm hole and...

Salamander shower pump warranty

plumber purchased and installed a salamander shower pump, pump has stopped working after being used for just less than 6 months. Plumber has replaced with a new pump and is charging me for the new pump and says I need to deal with warranty after the event. I have no receipt as I did not purchase the pump and it was charged for within my invoice for re-fitting a new bathroom. I assumed that the plumber was re-fitting free of charge under the warranty. Have contacted Salamander and they will...

Plumbers wanted in London area; Plumbers Forums

Hello guys. New to forum so first time posting. It might be a long shot, but due to huge increase in work I am looking to get other plumbers on board. Not sure if anyone be interested but I thought I would ask. I am fully experienced and equipped and been in the trade for 12 years and always worked on my own but now the work just flooded and I unfortunately sometimes have to turn down the work which I hate to do. I am based in west London but the work is all over the place.
Any advice would...

Bristan Manhattan Easyfit spout seal; Plumbers Forums

Hi folks,

I have 2 of these taps both easyfit versions and need to replace the spout seal rings on one of them but I can't get the collar off either of them. When you look at the point where the the collar meets the main tap body there is the finest of lines that almost looks cosmetic i.e. not a real removable collar.

I've contacted Bristan support and they insist the collar can be removed and even sell a spout ring kit for it, but I have applied a good amount of force already on both taps...

Advice on the most reliable manufacturer

Hi all ,

I am redoing my shower cubicle/unit after no end of problems with my current wetroom style shower ( Big mistake!!)

The builder I am using has quoted me for some fittings but I am bit unsure as I really want to make sure they are good quality and reliable

- a Cubico Shower door/frame

- a London Showers slim tray

Are these good make. Would you fit them? Or what other makes should I look at?

Also , for the shower he has quoted for a Just Taps florence Bar valve

I'd be much more...

Vertical central heating pipes dropping from their joints, advice please.

Hello, I’m hoping someone out there can help me with a query I have regarding my central heating system. It’s an oil fired system with 16 radiators. I’m not sure when the system was installed but certainly a long time ago, perhaps even when the house was built in the mid 90s.

The radiators are fed by pipes that come directly up through the floor, (in other words there is no pipework that runs along the skirting)

My question is what could cause the pipe to drop from the union that connects...

Problem with shower when neighbours washing machine is on; Plumbers Forums

Hi,

We moved to a 1950s semi in Dec last year. We’ve noticed over the months that’s the electric shower will randomly have episodes whereby it starts to go hot and cold for no apparent reason. Same has just happened now and I thought my partner was running water downstairs but he wasn’t and we’ve no appliances on.

However, I have noticed we can hear whenever next door run water and we have old shared drains here and there’s no separate for rainwater v wastewater so I have wondered if...

Sometimes Noisy CH

This time last year our heating/boiler/hot water started making a loud rattling noise. The rattling happened each afternoon about 20 mins after the timer switched on the heating and hot water for the afternoon/evening. The rattle happened 2-3 times over a five minute period for maybe 10-15 seconds a time. The next day it did it again. The day after that it did it again but only once instead of 2-3 times. It never did it in the morning only the afternoon

Until last week (so same time of year...

Header tank continuous faults; Plumbers Forums

Hey, I've checked the forum and I cant see this has been covered on the list it gave me.
Header Tank:
I've had issues with my HT in loft, when hot tap runs, there is a horrible loud screeching noise that runs through from loft. Continues even with hot tap off. Only thing that stops it is turning on the cold tap in a short burst.
I had the ballcock and thermostat changed and had the pipes pinned as they were vibrating. It didn't resolve it

Hot taps now producing a thin...

Can a large thermal mass tank replace a gas boiler ? Opinions needed

Hi

My name is Jose, I live in Bath, Somerset. I have decent plumbing skills having installed several bathrooms and kitchens over the past 10 years. I have a question about a system that I have been thinking it might have the potential to replace my gas boiler and bring me closer to be completly off gas and somewhat mains eletric independent and would like to hear your opinions.

I am having a big solar PV system of about 30 x 400 W panels and 2 x 12 kW battery installed on my 3 bed 100sq...

Can anyone recommend a wall stud detector; Plumbers Forums

Hi All
Before I go out and purchase a wall stud, wire & pipe finder has anyone got any recommendations that won’t need a mortgage to pay for them.
Finding pipe work under floors and in walls is getting more tricky with plastic piping being used more where not on show. I have one but I don’t trust it anymore. It’s over 10 years old and it’s held together with cloth tape and elastic band.
Any information would be appreciated
Thanks in advanced

Head scratching so much, i'm getting a bald spot (3 port valve issue); Plumbers Forums

So...
My mother moved into her new home a few months ago , house about 20 years old. The central heating is open vented.

Her heating had an issue where the rads would come on when only calling for hot water.

So Friday I changed her 3 port valve, with an identical valve, found the old valve full up of rubbish.

Once the valve was in I went to untie the ball valve. It was at this point something odd happened. When I went to drain the rads they wouldn’t all drain, it felts like there was very...

Why aren't PRD/PRV devices made resettable?

Ok, just a layman's view here. I understand fully the need for a PRD in a shower unit. I know the Physics of it all and I get how they work totally. But why nowadays is it a piddly little soft ball popping out of a hole and not a proper sprung loaded valve set to open at the same pressure the ball pops at? It is no problem to make a valve which will open cleanly at the required pressure but will reset itself if the pressure is released. We have these fitted in every car on the road in the...

Hide radiator pipes behind plasterboard.

Hello everybody! Could you please give me advice on what is the best way to hide radiator pipes behind the plasterboard? I have heard from other plumbers that if i will chase the wall and wanted to fill channel with filler or cement, copper pipes needs to be covered with foam insulation. What about if i will put those copper pipes in chased channel and cover with plasterboard without filling chaser? is that good practise to do it or there is have to be specific regulations on how to hide...

Can I tee a washing M/C into the condensate discharge from a boiler?; Plumbers Forums

Hi
I could really do with some advice. My son has just bought his first house, which has a utility room with a boiler and the utility meters etc. They want to install the washing machine and tumble dryer in there instead of the kitchen but there isn’t a waste for the washing machine.
The boiler has a 40mm discharge pipe that runs through the wall to the outside and into the drain. Is it ok to run the washing machine waste through the wall and tee into the 40mm waste from the boiler? I’ve...

Please help, all rads cold, flow and return also cold

Can anyone help as the heating in our house has always been troublesome, but now it is worse than ever. Over the years we have had 3 new boilers, 3 new pumps, 4 new radiators and 2 power-flushes. This last week we have had the Y-plan connections changed to 2 S-plan connections with lights on so that we can see when both are on. I put in 2 bottles of X400 on Monday and then attached a hosepipe from the boiler to drain the system on Wednesday. I left it on for about an hour from the advice of...

How do I connect 40mm solvent weld piping to a soil stack with a 50mm boss strap.; Plumbers Forums

I am just renovating my bathroom and have been removing the old waste pipe which appeared to be a mishmash of different pipe types. I want to use all new solvent weld pipping and joints but have discovered the boss attachment to the soil pipe is standard 50mm pipe receiver. Is there any connector or adaptor I can buy to fit 40mm solvent weld pipping into a standard 50mm pipe receiver?

To push fit or not to push fit; Plumbers Forums

Hello
Basically I’m still finding my way in the world of plumbing and I seem to have a confidence issue with using push fit fittings as a permanent solution. Up to now I’ve used the traditional methods of soldering and compression joints.
I have a really awkward space that would benefit from a push fit so just wanted to get the general consensus on whether to go for it or not.
Cheers

Bristan PM2 SHC3STP C

I have a Bristan PM VSHXSP Prism Inline Vertical Shower Pole with Fixed Head that needs a bit of care. The diverter pulses and needs a new spring and there are general leaks throughout the pole. This is a discontinued model and spares seem impossible to obtain. I have a couple of questions:

Is there a direct replacement for this type of shower where the feeds are about 3” above one another.

Does anyone know of spares for this particular Bristan shower?

Any recommendations so as not to...

Boiler bypass always opening

Hi all - hopefully I can get some answer to a maddening issue. The boiler bypass just refuses to stop letting water through.

Here is the run down. We bought the house last year. It has a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 418 which is only 3 years old. It's on a Y plan, with a hot water cylinder that looks to have been installed at the same time as the boiler - it's very new and a sealed foam type.

When we moved in we had new rads all round and all the microbore removed. The system was powerflushed...

Bathroom fitting experience; Plumbers Forums

Hi all.
I am looking for a career change at 45 years old!! I am interested in bathroom fitting. I have done a very basic course a few years ago and learnt basic plumbing. I have changed basins, and basin and bath taps at home and for family. I was wondering if there are any bathroom fitters that would like some free labour in the Brighton and Hove area. I have my own transport and tools etc. I work shifts in my day job so could fit in around that. If anyone interested drop me private...

Novice Needs Advice On New Shower System Please...; Plumbers Forums

Hi All,

I am at the planning stage of a bathroom refurb & am looking for a new Shower with Body Jets. Ideally I would want an reputable brand like Aqualisa, Bristan etc so it will last many years & spares should not be a problem - however I don't think my budget will allow for a Grohe or Hansgrohe.

I plan on using my own Overhead Drencher & own Handheld so am looking for a system that has:

1) Overhead Drencher
2) Pole Mounted Hand Held
3) 6-8 Body Jets.

Very Important: The system MUST...

Shower Tray

Hi, have recently decided my old shower had to go , so have ripped most of it out. It is situated in a separate shower room with a external wall at one end and the sides composed of stud walls. The distance (width to opposite side ) of the studding is 770mm, the old plaster board on the studding has been removed. I intend to replace the plaster board with Jackoboard with a nominal thickness of 12mm so that would bring the gap to 770-24 = 746mm.
The most suitable tray width is 760 mm, which...

Replacing a 12 year old air source heat pump

Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice on replacing an old air source heat pump.
We moved into a shared ownership house last year which has a Daiken air source heat pump fitted to provide heating and hot water. The unit was fitted when the house was built 12 years ago. It seems that the previous owners of the house weren't too bothered about getting the unit serviced and the unit has died on us, although I think 12 years is about the average lifespan for older ASHP units.
We had an...
