Goodbye 1651 :( Hello 1652C

Had to say bye bye to the Fluke 1651 - too many error chirps and button pressing for each test - getting old like me. Its not the non auto rcd - I enjoyed the exercise. But I did find I wanted the soft 250V IR test and RCD ramp test.

A wholesaler had a trade day this week and I got a new 1652C on account for £468. Took the edge off the tear inducing £60 BGB

Well, stick with what you know I say. Although I have used the old meggers (last incarnation). This rep had a robin all in one for £385+ that was a good deal but seemed a harder/brittle plastic to it, nice otherwise.

The firm i worked for had flukes, ended up getting rid they were always in getting repaired, never really had much trouble with the megger 1552s

I see where this is headed ..... No, It was getting old and in need of some repair. I like new leads so if I got some more and the calabration you were looking at £80. I thought I would treat my self for another £400 got a new machine that did the extra tests I need. Could I have got a megger that did auto rcd, 250v IR and ramp for £468? Maybe I could but PLEASE let me bask in my purchase even if "fluke tester" is an oxymoron.

Have you had any problems with the continuity readings do you check it on a check box regularly after you have nulled the leads my readings can vary on different days and its brand new.

I have a little resistor on my strap> Null leads> check against that.

Most spurious readings are down to battery life, it does like a battery does the fluke.

Things are cheap for a reason, i can never understand sparks who buy the cheapo stuff in wholesalers like chint, it breaks down fairly quickly and you end up with callbacks at your expense all for the sake of spending a pound or two extra

The Megger is the same works fine then you get a daft reading then you switch it off then on and see 9v change batteries sorted and as Trigger says "Look after your broom.............................................."
