Pr!ck around my area trading as 'an electrician' and i use the term loosley.

Had an argument with him today face to face after stepping on my patch...now, i can see some of you will think im abit of a ----- for confronting him. However, i have no problems with electricians coming and underpricing me if they're genuine electricians (theres enough work for all of us)...i believe this geezer isn't.

Heard through the grape vine and other people i know (for many years) how he's been slagging me off, telling clients and other tradesmen that i don't do work correctly or properly.......i have a yearly elecsa assessment once a year - like others, to prove im competent. The one thing he seems to say about me is 'i use the incorrect certs' i confronted him with that knowledge, and the job at the time was a new circuit addition to a laundry block (EIC) i said what should i be using then...and he said 'im not telling' lol little girl, had to walk away at that point otherwise i woulda dropped him and got myself in trouble.

I have been told that hes only just done his 17th edition, when i asked him this he said...he did it when it first came out, i then told him i'd been in touch with a college and they said he did the 3day course last week for £400...he then changed his story too 'yeah because i lost my last 17th paperwork'

He isn't registered with a scheme (which i am full aware you don't have to be - as many on here aren't, in this guys case im pretty sure its because he cant get registered as apposed to not wanting to be registered) and im pretty sure he doesn't have 2391 or 2394/2395 because when i asked him his qualifications he told me 17th and nothing else.

Also, and this is just me being a complete bitch...he has LED SPECIALIST printed all over his van, what is so F'ing SPECIALIST about LED's?

My question is...if you were so stupid to be able to loose a valuable qualification, wouldn't you be able to ring C&G or whoever and get a replacement sent even for a small cost? Not re-sit the whole exam like he's claiming?

The guy in question has a history for reporting electricians to the NIC and thats why he's just moved to yorkshire from down south somewhere after upsetting everyone (more info if possible to follow on this) He, according to others...goes around spreading down-right lies to get work instead of pricing jobs fairly and getting business the proper way. Now, im unsure how to deal with this...my options are:
A) Fill him in good and proper (which i really want to do)
B) the more sensible approach of a solicitors letter with signatures as proof to slander.

Not sure on how to deal with the situation, hopefully he F's off on his own accord - but not sure whether that'll happen. He's the most 2faced person ive ever met...id met him once before this argument today and he seemed nice as pie (although i was jubious of his quals at the time - didn't say anything because he seemed an alright bloke)

Not sure if this helps but most clients don't listen when 1 trades man slags off another. In fact it normally puts them in a bad light.

Not much you can do about it, not sure how long you've been trading but recommendations get me about 70% of my business and that should be your aim too.

One thing I do is I have the Elecsa logo on my estimates and invoices and I do include a line for test, certificate and if relvent notification - hopefully to differentiate from others!

Sounds like a complete ???? Inform LABC that he is carrying out Part P notifiable work and if you have to send a solicitor letter like you say telling him to refrain from slandering you

and everywhere you notice him doing work post a leaflet explaining about using part p registered electricians to carry out notifiable works

Murdoch none of them are listening...they've all told him to F off...but too me thats not the point, he's going around spreading ****...and i am aware hes slagged off another electrician in the area to try and get work aswell. Gladly the people aren't listening but pricks like this can ruin reputations in a second that have taken years to get - i need to stop him.

Recommendations get me the same, 70%...since i smashed my last van up last year i haven't had this one sign-written yet (true white van man at the moment) and its been like that for months because keep getting work so not had the time to do it. Had an unwritten van for nearlly 5months now and going stronger than ever at the moment touch wood.

I don't do elecsa on invoice or estimates (may start - cheers buddy) i do have it on the CU/DB stickers though. Seriouslly wish he'd **** off to where he came from.

That had crossed my mind but i didn't know whether that would make me look like a trouble-making **nt to the clients hes working for....i'm gonna do the solicitors letter, and if i can catch him doing anywork ill make sure hes notifying it.

His van makes me laugh, has his name and then all it says is....LED specialist, Inspection Testing, Satelite...the worst layout to a van ive ever seen, hasn't really covered much on his descriptions....i genuinley hate him after today now...can you tell lol

You pay enough to be a member so make it part of your marketing - and on your website (if you have one)

There's a guy round our way who, according to him, is the only good spark in town. Everyone else is a cowboy my goodself included, funny thing is though everyone else has had him by the throat up against a wall, my good self included.
Bottom line is mate there's ********s all over that will slag you off but you only have to deal with it once and he'll never slag you off again.

Of course, violence is never the answer nudge nudge wink wink

Cheers for the advice lads, will get it sorted - was just abit annoyed earlier because theres no need for behaving in that way. Conduct yourself proper and get work fairly, can't stand mugs like him. He'll be dealt with and i'll send him back down south so someone else on here can have the pleasures of dealing with him again haha.

I learned a very valuable lesson very early on in school, I think I was in year 7 so I guess I must have been about 11 or 12.

I was always getting the snide comments and the weird looks, for some reason my body had decided it was completely normal to push a full on beard out of my face at that age, this was coupled with the fact that I was about twice the size of everyone at school so I guess I represented a challenge. I played in the chess club and was in what was called the 'Able Students Program', also apart from three or four good loyal friends I didn't have very many and tended to keep myself to myself. In essence, I was not one of the cool kids and was often picked on or made fun of, nothing major and nothing like proper bullying but just kids being kids.

One afternoon, one of the so called 'hard' kids decided it would be funny to trip me over in the main hallway in front of about 30 others, many were laughing, I presume it was at the prospect of how that big oaf (me) got 'done' by someone half my size. Anyway, to cut a long story short, after a confrontation between his head and a small fire extinguisher he ended up in hospital and I ended up in a police cell. Needless to say that upon my return to the school a few weeks later (luckily without a criminal record) I had suddenly found myself a whole heap of new friends, a reputation of being a nutter and the 'hardest' kid in school, a number 8 position in the school rugby team and I managed to bag the girl (for two weeks at least) that before this whole kerfuffle would have been WAY out of my league! How ridiculous you might say, and you'd be right, kids are not only shallow and idiotic, they're fickle little creatures aren't they, but do you want to know what the best part of this whole episode was? I was able to play chess and excell at my studies unhindered for the rest of my school days.

Am I proud of what I did? Definitly not! If I could travel back to that moment in time would I do the same again? In a heartbeat!

I have carried this with me through my school days to my army days, from my army days to the nights I spent on the doors and from the nights I spent on the doors to this present moment. Whether I was getting tripped up in the hallway at school, had drunken wannabe gangsters in my face screaming at me on the door or had little gits trying to rob my business, my customers and the food out of my kids mouths as a spark, I have always taken a professional, logical and reasoned approach to dealing with all manner of situations life has thrown at me but the one thing I have learned is that when push comes to shove, talking solves nothing.

Option 'A' for me.

Just give the local Dopers a few quid to raid his van of tools and materials, whilst your elsewhere. Tell them they will get a canny few quid of the tools and copper.Or tell the local nutters he has an effection towards young children, thats allways good for a hiding. Thats for starters it makes you feel good, then do the legal stuff for the crack.

Good luck

Sorry Bruce dont take this the wrong way but bloody hell that is the funniest thing i have heard in a long while, most LABC dont have a clue about Part P so you may as well just post a blank envelope to them.
