A friend of mine wants to change his old plastic sockets and light switches for chrome finished ones ive passed my 2330 and just finishing off my nvq am i allowed to do this without part p?

i just dont want any comebacks on me as hes in a council flat or shall i leave alone

a staightforward like for like replacement is non-notifiable. however if the fittings are of the flat flush type you may need to increase the depth of some back boxes to accomodate

Yeah its none notifiable but look fist to see if their is earth wires at the switches other wise its a no no for fitting metal fittings and must be plastic

hi again yes its all flush mounted switches i know how to replace them easy job i just need know with it being a council flat can i personnally change them with only being an apprentice i just dont want any comebacks with it being a council flat and not being part of the niceic im not being paid for the job im doing it as a favour

Only problem I see is if the council are like ours, your mate will have to keep the old fittings to replace them if he moves out. as they insist that the place be left in the same condition as it was let. ie Mate of mine just moved into council house and they had removed all sorts of gear that the previous owner had installed.

As Carl said just keep the old ones, if the council don't like them swap them back, you should check if the earth is functional to use.

PS: I do prefer brush steel rather than chrome but it is your call..
