Bathroom light switch, is a 45A shower switch, wired strangely.

I know.. I did feel bad. I was there for 3 hours, fixed the reversed polarity on 4 sockets, connected up the disconnected main earth and chatted to her for ages about her poor husband with dementia. Should have been £175, charged £50 cash as she was a nice old lady who only wanted the bathroom...

Bathroom light switch, is a 45A shower switch, wired strangely.

Nope, no RCD protection, so I didn't want to make any alterations in the bathroom. Plus bathroom light is class 1, right above the bath. I'd rather she didn't use it.

Bathroom light switch, is a 45A shower switch, wired strangely.

Just got back from the customer. We will never know what was going on with the 45A switch, as I never even got that far. My very first thing was to do a global IR test, which came back as 0.45ohms L/N - E. Various IR faults showed on various circuits. Some circuits showing more than one fault...

Bathroom light switch, is a 45A shower switch, wired strangely.

My customer asked me to change her intermittently working bathroom pull switch. When i arrived I saw that it was a 45A shower pull switch purely being used to switch the light on and off. Wired in 1mm. However, there was a conductor in the both the L and N in the supply side, and just one...

    EICR/ Amendment

I just went on to their main website and found the technical advice email... technical@---------- I'm really not sure why a professional forum wont let me mention 'the I E T' (no spaces, all lower case)

Jesus man!.. I reckon if Faraday himself popped up and disagreed with you, you'd still take more convincing.

    EICR/ Amendment

I have had a response from the IET. See below... "Thank you for your enquiry. I am required to preface my remarks by saying that I have no authority to interpret the requirements of BS 7671:2018, Requirements for Electrical Installations, or any other British Standards, nor am I able to provide...

Good Morning Thread - Come say good morning, tell us what you've got on today. :)

You're 60, your lady is 59. You are both soo young!! As long as you have your health, which I really hope you both do, you have another 10 years (at least), maybe 15 of doing crazy stuff. I have just got back into walking (bear with me, as that doesn't sound too crazy). I walk into the middle of...

Using a dimmer switch for bathroom light, with a fan.

Yes... I'm trying to fathom your thinking, but cant. Perhaps you're thinking its safe(r) because the lower voltage is only being used to switch the fan on, and then the PL (at 230V) keeps the fan going? I 'think' that's how a timer fan works.

Using a dimmer switch for bathroom light, with a fan.

Thanks westward. Is that because of the increased current?

Using a dimmer switch for bathroom light, with a fan.

My customer would like a dimmer switch for the bathroom lights. The light switch also switches on the fan. They are not worried that the fan will not work if the dimmer switch is switched on when on low. However, I wanted to get some opinions on whether there is any realistic danger involved...

Making tax digital - software for sole traders etc

Thanks for this thread @happysteve , I have a feeling the thread is going to get longer and longer over the next year :) I'm just starting to get a little nervy over the MTD thing. I was planning on sitting down for the day and researching it, as I literally have no idea what it means. I...

Circuit breaker tripping when turning oven off

I realise that when you switch the oven off it may well just be switching off the line (not the neutral), but if for any reason it is double pole switching, then even a small difference in time between them (live and neutral) switching off can cause an RCD to trip. I've never had this on an oven...

Understanding the Construction industry Scheme (CIS)?

So if I choose not to register and get charged at the 30%. Can I just pop that into my self assessment return and get it back? If so, I'm not too sure why anyone registers. If I register, I get 20% taken off and then get it back. You end up with the same amount whether you're registered or not?
