Customer e mailed me back today and is going ahead with option of changing the whole consumer unit out - and replacing shower cable obviously.
And for the record - the customer was informed to leave the shower on the medium setting as part of the temporary fix last night and had explained the...
Does it let you input and save materials also? This is one thing I like about Your Tradebase - it allows you to do this and set margins against materials.
has anyone subscribed to Your Tradebase for quotes, invoicing etc? It looks great and I’m on the free trial but it’s £25 a month if you subscribe.
Would be keen to know your thoughts if you’ve used it for your sparky business or if there are less expensive ones out there or alternatives.
Thanks
And for the record - the quote I need to do for her is to replace her whole consumer unit or to just install a new 2 way board for the shower circuit. Along with the cable upgrade obviously
The circuit has been de-rated and the customer has been told to leave her shower at medium setting until the changes can be made. I don’t know where you guys come from but up here you can’t get a drum of 10mm cable or a new consumer unit at 5pm on a Friday.
So you’d rock up to a customers house -disconnect their shower and walk away until you tell them you’re returning to replace their shower cable? If it was a modern day board - you’d not just de rate the MCB in the meantime to match the cable size as a temporary fix? Exactly
Jeez, I see the righteous police are straight onto this one eh? . “Temporary fix” means “temporary” until the job gets done properly!
The cable was re-terminated and switch replaced. The customer wants a quote for replacing the shower cable to a 10mm one and changing out the consumer unit...
hi folks, thought I’d share this...
Called out to a customer of mine yesterday, said that her shower switch had been making a smell if shower had been on for 10mins. Went there expecting to be a loose neutral like I’ve seen before.
The shower was a 9.5kw that had been installed and once I...
Problem sorted...
Went out to discover that it was actually only the kitchen sockets that was tripping RCD.
Ran continuity tests which told me of broken neutral somewhere and a short between neutral and earth. After initially suspecting a faulty boiler or faulty fridge (disconnected them...
He’s assured me that there’s not been any DIY done so I hope that this actually is the case.
Yes definitely worth checking the legs as you say, but surely if these had been mixed up when it was done, the RCD would trip instantly no?
I absolutely hate fault finding - until I find it and then...
hi folks,
Been asked to go look at a job tomorrow as his RCD is not resetting - customer sent me some details and from what I can determine is this....
It’s only socket circuits that are on the RCD side of the board. The downstairs socket circuit and the kitchen socket circuit are both off -...
I only received one technical non conformance but it was out of my hands. The house is empty and has previously installed some new sockets in the living room. All my tests were spot on at the time and obtained similar continuity tests on the L-L and N-N. however, it was clear the plasterer had...
Thanks Bob - I'm based in Scotland so I believe it just falls under the approved category.
I'm just worried they request a site example with an EIC or something rather than just minor works. I know it'll probably be fine - just hoped today was the last hurdle.
Yes it was very nerve racking...
So I had my very first office and site assessment today which I'm pleased to say I've passed and the assessor said he will put in the report as a pass. Which is good, but....
He says that his report goes into the NICEIC and from there they will look at it and be in touch when it is internally...
thoughts on this one folks....
6mm armoured cable to supply summerhouse. Wiska box screwed onto side of the house at a low level beside vents - this allows a pathway under floor to front door hatch where fuse board is.
Option 1 - terminate the armoured cable into the wiska box on side of...
