I did my City & Guilds 2330 Level 2 & 3 at college along with;
- 2391 Inspection & Testing
- 17th Edition

Our teachers said we'd be fully qualified after City & Guilds Level 3, but after I finished my course I had no experience. So, I started finding temporary Electricians Mate work and people were saying 'You're only fully qualified if you have the NVQ Gold Card.'

But I have no idea what this is, did I basically waste 2 years at college on a pointless course? Because we rarely did any practical work, it was two years in a classroom with no on-site experience.

im in the same position i have 2330 level 2 and 3 and just passed 17th edition last week. college have now told me i should do the 2391 later this year. all this with very little installation experience.i dont want to have all these quals and be laughed at due to obvious lack of practical experience so im reluctant to take the 2391 before finding relevent employment. and when i do find a job im guna want to do the nvq before the 2391. not an easy thing is this re-training.

To get a JIB gold card you need to complete a NVQ level 3, that is what the JIB class as being qualified. Your level 2 and 3 2330 is not an NVQ level 3. You would need an NVQ 2356 or 2357

From the JIB website [h=2]1.4 Electrical Improver[/h] This grade has been introduced for apprentices who do not achieve their NVQ Level 3, and therefore are unable to complete their apprenticeship, to encourage to remain in the industry. It is not a new grade to be utilised for NVQ Level 2 labour other than for apprentices who are registered on JIB Training Schemes and who have been unable to achieve the NVQ Level 3. It is the intention of the JIB to provide an opportunity for these apprentices to remain within the industry

the easiest way for you to become qualified is to sign up for an apprentaship.

you wont have to go to college because you have tech certs already and you will go straight to doing your nvq.
