Yesterday I saw our cat crossing the road with a squirrel hanging from his mouth - he's brought dead ones home before and thought no more about it.

Today, our cat, and other local cats are paying a lot on interest in some bushes in our garden and the reason - an injuryed squirrel is hiding in there. The squirrel does venture out when the cats aren't around but if I approach it (the misses and kids won't) it goes back in to the hedge.

So what should we do next??

Sensible ideas please and I do know somebody locally who has a gun licence!

If you cant get to the squirrel then there isnt a lot you can do. What do you do with the injured squirrel if you do get it? If its so injured it cant climb trees and escape from perdators then its pretty buggered anyway.
You could try an lure it away from the area my leaving a food trail in the hedge.

RSPCA hows that

try catching it with one of those humane traps, then fill your wheelie bin with water and drown it.

If it's a grey squirrel, ie vermin, let the cats eventually get it, or set fire to the hedge! :-)

agreed. let the cats have some fun with it. better than killing songbirds. but check your cat for fleas. grey squirrels are full of them.

agreed.

the grey's a pest. it needs eradicating so the reds can have a chance to survive.

Our cat used to catch rabbits and just eat the head....

very selfless, leaving the main body for your stew.

Yeah, seen maggots falling out of them, and still eaten by some . Common with game , do you no harm at all when you get used to trotting to the bog all day.

So how have you got on Murdoch? Have you set the hedge on fire and blamed it on some religious phenomenon?

parent cat brought in a live mouse. I went to grab it and get it out the kitchen and the little bugger bit me. I was in A&E the next day getting a tetnus and letting all the staff giggle
