Breakers upside down

Called to a house today to just change some switches and went to the mains to switch off.This is what I was presented with.
If you notice all the breakers have been put in upside down.

My question is would they still work in a fault condition in that position?

Yes.

they even work sideways. this is a bonus as any escaping electricity will fall ( under gravity) back into the main switch and hence back to the grid for some FIT.

Fuses and MCBs don’t care which way round they are.
Single module RCBOs can only be fitted one way.
Double module RCBOs and RCDs will operate if round the wrong way, but the test button may not.

Have you opened it? If the breakers are upside down it could be worth checking where the busbar is and make sure its clamped properly. I'm not sure if the top and bottom terminals are in the same position.

Why didn't they put the main switch upside down then. If they wanted to be clever they could of installed 'em the right way up, but just put the labels upside down. Would of been quicker.

all cities have their bad guys. we had Saville, London has SWD.
