Calibration Checkboxes

Ive got Megger MIT310 and LRCD210 17th edition test equipment and I want to make sure they are calibrated correctly.

Have come across this item:

For £119 it seems ideal ..... anyone got any views for or against??

I'm assuming that if I buy a checkbox I don't need to send the testers off to be calibrated.

hiya. i think £119 is a bit expensive when my cal card from elecsa cost about £20, this does IR and Continuity, for the others ie. rcd disconnection times i use the same socket in my garage to test (garage has own d/b with rcd's). the thing is you can only keep a record of wether your readings are wandering away from spec, because otherwise the checking box would need to be sent away to be calibrated all the time. I find it's better to use a known source to test from once a month and keep records, this keeps Elecsa happy too, saves me re-calibrating (£65) every year. your choice of course, but my choice is to give as little money away as possible..!

I just ordered my calcard from Elecsa ..... and instructions exactly as you state above. Much appreciated

i use a checkbox, cost about £40 bit more robust than a calcard and scheme assessor allows regular checking meaning i can avoid yearly cal costs

I have a Calcard, I keep it in the box with my MFT and a copy of the latest test results, just in case I get weird readings or my MFT gets knocked down the stairs, i can verify my MFT is working whilst onsite.

I was under the impression the schemes still want you to calibrate every 2 years if you have the calcard/checkbox etc?? If not, it'd be worth getting one.

not sure rocker just had last assesment about a month ago and he said providing i keep a regular check and readings dont start to wander then he will accept instead of calcert

The electrical scheme Mafia say that calibration can be left for upto 3 years providing you use some form of checking yourself i.e checkbox and known socket, monthly.


This one was about £30 when I bought it I think.

I knocked up my own record sheet and "they" were happy with that.

Hmmm...... I'm 9 months through my calibration - do you reckon I could start using a checker now, as my tester is still 'sound' as it's in a calibration period, and avoid having to recalibrate?

Maybe I'll send 'them' an email.

test it and compare readings to last calcert if roughly simmilar then just make up the results for last few months and continue checking from now

I think all these check boxes are expensive for what they are, a handful of resistors costing less than a £1 in a fancy package costing £20 or more. What is wrong with using a selection of resistors without the fancy packaging

Woo Hoo just got an all singing all dancing Seaward one which also does RCD and earth loop checking as well as continuity and resistance for the bargain basement price of 19.77! That's the same as the calcard!

Ezz now that's a great idea!
