Hello people
Ive been out of full time electrics a while now (did domestic and commercial works previousley) currently doing fire/em lts servicing (got a mortgage to pay) guy i was working with tripped a breaker by accident trying to change a light live went to ccu lighting circuit was on a 32 amp breaker in a 3phase board turned it back on nothing found another board with a 6amp breaker in all came back on i realise the 6amp will be a coil circuit the premesis was an old folks home so lots of lights on same circuit but having a 32amp mcb going through contactor for lights surely this isnt right?? Could someone please explain im just really curious as when i was sparkying i never did that sort of thing would just like to know

Lights connected to a lighting junction box which is fed off a FCU or plug top and socket outlet, The FCU/socket outlet fed from the 32amp circuit fed through the contactor and switched via the coil?

So from a 32amp mcb it leads to a j/b u mean with seperatley fused outputs like a little consumer unit? Like a 6amp for a corridor? But still I didnt take the the ccu lid off to check but to me that means you still have a 32amp mcb on a 1.5 unless from the mcb theres a 6mm perhaps feeding this proposed ccu through a contactor? But still if there is alot of lights running through it would it not trip the 32amp mcb on start up? Just struggling to understand it but wanting to know

Thanks

Lights in the place are ancient 2d's on 24/7 once there off alot of them dont come back on lad I mentioned isnt a sparky hes a security/fire engineer hearts in right place but just doesnt understand

Scary ! If he carries on like that his heart will still be in the right place, but possibly not beating.:leaving:

sounds as if the 32 amp breaker is feeding a small DB which feeds the lights and it is controlled via a contactor, a switch somewhere controlls the coil and is via a 6 amp breaker, when you tripped the lights the explosion was enough to take out the breaker which sounds like a B rated to me and therefore no discrimination under fault conditions, and why are you working live?
