Blooming hell!! I have just changed 5 energy saving bulbs that where outside, every one of them broke in my hand which I assume was because of the cold. Thanks for sharing that, I never realised the effects could be that bad.

My motto is never do any work/DIY bare foot. I have spent some time in Thailand and most builders ware the cheap flip flops. Funny to us but I bet there are not as may toe amputation as you would expect.

A mate of mine has lost a toe through not wearing the correct shoes. he is diabetic and stoop on a cable clip in his trainers. thats a scary image. I have had a few crack in my hands when i have been changing them.

As far as I know mercury, as with any other heavy metal does not cause external damage to tissue or skin. The health issue is an internal one when it's absorbed into the body (mostly as vapour) it effects the central nervous system in the shorter term and the internal organs in the longer term.

Looking at the photographs it looks more like the result of an infection, not mercury.

Yep, very nasty bacterial infection, I've seen similar necrosis with spider bites as well. You think it looks bad, thank your lucky stars you can't smell it ....I don't have the words to describe the stench but it's so strong you can taste it if you get close enough.......

Eventhe smallest nick should be cleaned and properly treated Specialy when dealing with lamps ect Firm I worked for had 2 vans sent back from the garage with instructions to clean them out as the mechanics refused to work on them due to the broken glass and white powder This highlights the hidden dangers the government dont want people to know about while they push push the "GREEN" credentials I think if a study is dont on possible effects of broken PV panels and what goes into manufactruing them some scarey stuf would come out as well

You think that is bad, see what 25,000 volts will do to your health....Definitely suggest at this point that admin moves this away from public viewing. I used this video in a electrical safety presentation i gave to the floor staff at work after i found one of the guys had taken the front panel of a three phase thermo regulator control board and was poking at it with a screw driver............... Definitely hit home the severity of electrical shock, be it 110 or < , 230, 415 volts or 25000, all can and will kill you, no questions.
