Do we/admin need new rules to gain access into the Arms?

As it stands at the moment it is 15 posts and proof that your self employed or a spark.

This was set up years ago along with the forum, times have changed along with the amount of members we have now.

We all know and love this forum, what sensible suggestions can we make to admin for the admittance of new Arms members.

My suggestion is minimum of 100 posts so the admin and mods can see who they really are.

What's yours???

no chancers...and no min/max posts as all you get would be hi and welcome, which seems quite common for the post junkies.

id also go to that some members should be invited without giving away to much personal info, take e54 for example, theres a lot of knowledge going to waste by him being in with the normal posts,i think he would open up more knowing all the world wont see his posts

It seems there are 2 ways into the arms:

  • Prove you're a self employed electrician
  • Prove you're not a tool.
Unfortunately the two aren't the same thing, as has been proven in the past.

I just want them to put £3.20 to cover my welcome pint in my account and sod the rules.... on this thinking i shouldnt need to buy a beer till new year :) with all the rush.

I'm guessing if people like e54 who obviously have exceptional knowlage in there field would be allowed access by just sending a pm to a mod.

I’ve asked about E54 before, he has been invited to join but doesn’t seem inclined to.

I don't think e54 ever holds back to be honest. He says what he thinks, much to some peoples' annoyance :)

I think he's a very knowledgeable bloke & enjoy reading his posts. I just wish he'd learn the difference between the words "there" and "their" & where & when each should be used, but I can make allowances for him. :)

I don't think he's ever requested access so he got the 'appreciated member' status given instead which just indicates to others that even though he's not an Arms member, his advice is considered solid by the forum and his contribution is appreciated.

As for access requirements, I'm not keen on any minimum number of posts being required for anything to be honest, it just means the people post rubbish to up their post count. I've seen it numerous times where there's posts saying 'six more to go' .....'five more to go'...and so on.

Even introducing a minimum qualification is difficult because there are some pretty clued up electronics guys that don't have electrical quals, also overseas members like me wouldn't qualify :( I think it's just one of those things that's going to have to be considered on a case by case basis which is obviously time consuming and can only be done by the Admin staff.

And then you just get professional ---- artists like me, skilled in the art of gate crashing bars and parties the world over. I do seem to recall my entry to the Arms was delayed by the cute blonde at the cloakroom on the way in......
