Title: New trainee from Manchester – looking for advice
Hi everyone, my name’s Abubakar and I’m from Manchester.
I’m 41 and currently retraining as a Domestic Electrical Installer. I’ve signed up for a weekend Full Scope Electrical Installer course (including PV + EV) and I’m also working with a local electrician unpaid to gain hands-on experience.
I don’t come from an electrical background (I used to run a phone repair shop), so this is a big career change for me. I’m keen to learn, and I’d really appreciate advice from those of you who have been through this path before – especially around:

- Essential starter tools and test equipment (GS38 compliant)
- Tips for passing the ECS test
- How to get started as an Electrical Mate or trainee on site
