Hi Guys, can any one answer my query? As I have said on this forum before I hate spots,

I have been back to an old customer who had six spots in bedroom wanted two lots of three on seperate dimmers, changed them yesterday and replaced old one gang with two gang Varilight master touch dimmer ( 40 squids!!!!) They are all on transformers max 60va.

One side is fine but other side is flicking when they are dimmed? Do you think its the unit in dimmer? Or the only other thing I can think of thats different is on that side its a link to the live feed would that do it? Usually when this happens I just change the dimmer and that normally works.

Any ideas???????

It might be the dimmer but it could also be the transformer! I vote to ban spots and downlighters as well as been a pain I think they are dangerous due to the current consumption and the heat generated!

Good luck sorting this problem ----- you will proberbly need it.

try swopping the circuits round....should tell you whether it's the dimmer or the trannies

surely if they're all flickering it must be a prob with the dimmer itself tho :(

What wattage are the lamps in the downlighters? If the dimmer can't see enough load and I think that 60w is minimum for a 250w varilight the lights will flicker. Or you could blink in time with the lights and they would appear to be on ( or off )

Thanks guys, normally would replace dimmer, but just told customer to turn them up a tad its only flickering when he has it on lowest setting. Think it might possibly be that the dimmer by lowering the current so much, means the trannies can't draw enough ampage and lights flicker at that point? So it has to be dimmer, told him if it happens at other settings to call me back.
