Hi, just a simple one, ferule crimpers seem to come in a huge price range, are the sub £30 amazon ones worth it?

I've used the Perciva set for at least 12 months now and can't fault it. @ArtElectrics did a comparison against the Knipex version and found that it was very comparible to the Knipex but sided with the Knipex for ergonomics and general feel iirc.

got a similar 1 off ebay. £14.99 with the box of ferrules. can't fault it.

I have a couple of ferrule crimpers and the self-adjusting ones that @buzzlightyear linked to are by far the easiest to use, so get them as your starting point. They will do 99% of jobs perfectly.

Having to get the ferrule in to the right gap in the sized sort is more effort and if it get stuck in the wrong one (or the "inverse gap" between sizes) is a bit of a pain!

However, those cheap self-adjusting ones don't crimp sizes from 0.5mm or below well, not really a problem for power wiring though. For that I still use some simple manual crimpers like these:

I also have an expensive RS set for 10-35mm that is handy for tri-rated or dual 6mm ferrules, etc. They do a very good job but are hard to justify for most folk's jobs:

This is also a handy kit to go with the crimp tool for doing 13A plus, lights, grid-switches, etc, that use smaller terminals so the "insulated" ferrules are a bit bulky, covers 0.5mm to 2.5mm cable:

I have been running a Mr Quality, no laughing at the back, one off Amazon. It comes with a few hundred various crimps.

Used daily, 10-20 times, for six moths and its still as tight as the day I bought it.

Cost >£20. = disposable.

The eBay one I got direct from China has been fine. Sure, if I was working on a production line or looking at a 10+ year life for it then buying the Knipex one or RS one at x10 price makes sense, but for a couple of jobs per day that might need it - it is good enough.

I have the six jaw version of the above and it seems to be even tighter when crimped together, comes in a handy pouch with the ferrels in a plastic case inside the pouch, very handy.
