Am fitting 9 GU50 mans spots and need fire hoods. Anyone any good links as to where to buy etc? Always fitted LV in the past and never used the fire hoods.

I second that opinion. Buying fire rated cans in the first place is probably even a cost savings when you consider the labor to fit a fire hood around a regular one. I'm not even totally convinced that fire hoods will even perform as intended. Granted, not all downlighters are available in a fire rated version, so sometimes your hands are tied and you have to use a fire hood.

can you get above the downlightres? could always make a box out of plasterboard?

Trouble is the customer bought the downlights before he callled me so he wants to use them
i had a customer once bought 20 downlights from b&q on special offer ,he bought 20 fire hoods at £11.00 each:eek: it would have been cheaper to throw away the b& q lights and buy fire rated but he wouldnt listen.you just cant help some folk:D

yeah or the ones that have only the one spring height setting that they pay £6 for, then they wonder why the dont sit in there ceilings properly!! i hate downlights now, fitted far to many of them, half without checking main bonding first aswell!!

see ansell do some pre-assembled ones, not cheap but if you hate fitting them its all good.

fire hoods really are a pain the old rectrum

Nah, can't get above. Customer ripped ceiling down and I first fixed today with ceiling down. Just know that fitting the downlights and hood is gonna be a ball ache. If I was supplying and fitting then I would have bought fire rated. Only about a tenner each and I bet these cost more per unit AND need a fire hood.
