When I started reading this thread I had in mind exactly what Paul suggested, great minds eh mate? or is it the other one:)

"Great minds"

We could have different chat rooms with individual sponsors.
"Learning lounge" sponcered by t4s?

"Ive been done over by a cowboy" sponcered by rouge traders.

And my favorite one:-
"DIYers corner" sponcered by St. Johns ambulance service.

I am just considering the original question having replied to does this conform to Building regs and feel I have given too much specific information, but just got frustrated.
If he is doing the job himself then OK; if he is going back to the builder saying Richard Burns said this...
Hmm. Suddenly he knows about safe zones after he has the information, now worried.
I am not intending to comment on the poster here just the method of response.

Must think more in future!

Richard I wouldn't be to concerned about what you have posted, the op could get that info from a book instead of beung lazy and asking on a forum.

I'm not to sure about the op due to his replies, he has been given the option to post up his area so one of us can evaluate this install and reply was "we've already paid up front for all the works".

The op may be genuine but I've got my doubts.

Yep I agree I call it the Google mentality or in other words why look it up in a book just ask someone online or why bark when you have a dog

I am beginning to wonder about all the short course training companies sponsoring this forum and is it a guilt thing because they are pointing all their trainees in our direction to fill in their missing bits of training by asking us questions

Personally I am getting fed up of the aggressive nature of some of follow up posts when a reply is not forth coming to a basic college level bread and butter question and feel the best way to rid this industry of them is to not offer any advice other than "get a properly qualified tradesman"

And one the of the latest idiots comes on here and moans that a qualified spark knocks his work back and IMO wants us to justify his solution as he doesn't want to talk to the spark because he doesn't want to look like a knob, enough said

Yep UNG I totally agree this week a guy called to ask about a new consumer unit when I asked why he wanted it changed he said well I have had Scottish Gas in and they tell me I do not have an earth in the house anyway I went out conformed this had checked out the board yep dead short neutral to earth but as far as the guy was concerned I was just out to look at the board and not to confirm the lack of an earth.

So in my view this is happening more and more where you are pulled out on the guise of work but you are actually their to confirm the problem so from now on next time I get a call like this I am going to have to either charge for a callout or arrange to see the job the following week where it is too late as the customer needs me out on the same day to confirm that there is no earth for the DNO

I suggested this 8 months ago btw. Plus a learning forum, with the same set up.

No spare time today, I'm off in a min to look at an old cooker and I don't mean Telectrix ex wife ;). Oh sorry that should be boiler. (Beeston area btw Alex, I get all the nice areas :)).

Beeston is the Sloan Square of Leeds in comparison to Burmantofts........have you done that job yet?

I've just had to Google Sloan Square. Ha ha ha comparing both places lol. The Leeds version has 1 kfc, 57 take aways and loads of b&b's close to the signing on office.

Burmantofts is where I grew up (ebor gardens estate btw Howard, yes I have a couple of scars to prove it lol). But the burmantofts job paid up same day as completion, even offered to pay me half way through the job because she was going to work. I refused of course and waited for the husband to come home to inspect what I did before a penny was handed over. As for the Beeston job!!! Still chasing the landlady for payment!

Goes to show you that the hard working class knows what it means to pay a fare wage for a days work regardless of the sh1te hole areas they live in, go figure?

Anyway back on topic. Any chance of admin replying on this thread about our thoughts? I'm asking nicely Jason, I don't want to wind you up any more this week mate.
