Someone asked me a question about splitting an electric bill. The situation:

There is a three phase supply, from the meter it goes to henly blocks and then from there to two isolators which feed the two distribution boards. Could you insert a meter between the henly blocks and one of the isolators and work out the different usage of the two distribution boards and split the bill somehow that way???

Don,t see why not mate, either you get a 3ph meter, or a single phase meter, and do what you said, interupt 1 circuit and deduct figure from the main meter, seen it done loads of times.

Electricity is sold in Kilo Watt Hours, KWH, you will see the price per unit on the bill, take the difference between the 2x bills and times it by the KWH,

Not as simple as that it can depend upon how they are billed by electricity company.

Domestic supplies are billed by KWH but industrial supplies can be also based on reactive power used, that is why companies have power factor correction capacitors fitted to reduced the reactive power to practically 1 thus reducing the bill.
