Hex key set

Hi guys

Im after a hex key set for my tool set. What are everyones thoughts and recommendations? I was thinking of the folding one bahco do but someone said stay away from folding ones as there not great for tight spaces!

Yes, I'd steer clear of the folding ones. My preference is for nice long keys with a ball end on the longer leg.

I also have a 3mm hex VDE driver for checking the tightness of Henley blocks:

yes stay away from them.

a proper set is better.

most folding sets wont work on maglocks for example

Stick to the basics. There is a reason why allen has become the genericised term for hex/allen keys.

£19 for 1.5mm to 10mm (i've found 10mm handy for a few jobs) and have a nice holder.

had this set for just over 2 1/2 years and they are still going good all the green insulation is still on and holding well.

you can get a stainless set which I would have got if I seen them at the time, about the same price

I use a set of Gorilla ball end hex keys.
They come in a plastic block which keeps them together.

Why would you want stainless hex keys? Tools are better off being made from tool steel!

Stainless could be usefull for marine environments, or for maintenance tasks in food manufacturing installations.

The reason for using stainless on fixing is to prevent rust contamination on s/s fasteners.

IMO there is no other choice for hex allen keys then the wera sets.

This is the set I have, have taken a battering over the years.

Only managed to bend one trying to knock a locking pin out of a shaft. (not really designed to be hit with a lump hammer.)

£47 for the pair off amazon, I e was £24 and the othe £23 and a few pennies.

they are really very nice, just arrived today.

Yeah that right, they seem really solid and like they will last a lifetime, not used them yet but I'm sure they will perform very well.

Beat me too it! Yeah you've sold me! Only going for the solid set though, have a decent makita set of the ones with the hole in the middle (not sure the actual name of these!)

Yeah i just ordered the Torx set off Ebay for £21.80p. Not too bad.

Until you lose the 5mm, although the colour might make them easier to find

There's nothing worse than a set of allen keys with one missing. And one will go missing. Nothing wrong with cheap basic allen keys that are easily replaced as a set. I've always found it hsndy to have one set metric, one imperial, but this isn't as a sparky.

I'm an industrial maintenance spark so i'd keep a set of metric and imperial as well.

You can get genuine allen brand allen keys individually out of the rs catalogue, on a side note you can also get britool sockets individually off ebay
