Hi everyone.

I’m not a pro or in training. I’m more of a digital engineer normally and haven’t really done anything with electrics since I was at school a long time ago.

Recently started building a home brew keg system using an old chest freezer and need to bypass the thermostat so thought right... it’s time to learn the basics and get some understanding of how to perform simple electric jobs as I hate not knowing how to do stuff myself.

I started a thread to ask about the temp controller wiring issues that I’m trying to figure out at the moment...

But I think once I’ve done this I will try and do some other little projects to force myself to learn more about electrical stuff so I might be hanging around on here like a bad smell for a while, asking n00b questions.

So when you’re brewing you have a brew day where you essentially soak the sugar out of all the grains at a specific warm temperature and then boil the liquid for an hour so and add various things like hops along the way. You would then cool, add yeast and then need to control the temperature according to the style of beer and yeast you are using. The fermentation stage generally takes 1-2 weeks and people often use inkbirds for that with a heat pad underneath the bucket (and often use an old fridge to keep it in. There are then differing ‘conditioning’ periods depending on what style you’re brewing and often home brew is carbonated by adding a small amount of sugar before bottling which the leftover yeast activates and eats (the by product of which is co2 in your beer).

What I’m currently working on is a system for storing and serving once brewed... so my specifications are a lot more steady. I just need to keep it 2-4 degrees. I will house all this in an old chest freezer which I have been working on, with 20L kegs to dump the beer into and a co2 line to carbonate and push to the taps on the front of the ‘keezer’. Essentially I’m making a pub in my garden ?
