So I was sat thinking about emergency lighting (like every other 21 year old apprentice) I wondered if there was any reason other than price and size practicality as to why emergency lighting systems aren't wired into houses in case of power cuts etc? I appreciate its a completely OTT daft idea but I was just wondering. Also is there such a thing as an emergency light control panel (like a fire panel) where the batteries are stored that control all the lights? If so can someone post a link to one.

thanks again
James

I have one in our utility room as it is where the cu is. saved a couple of trips over the years and makes life so much easier when re setting an mcb in the dark. and before anyone mentions torches i have younger children around so torches are for playing and loosing not practicle uses here :D

thanks guys, I was just thinking as we fit them all the time at work in the schools we do etc. but it always seems strange that if the power goes off in a home everyone's left to fend for themselves, but I suppose the mad panic to find the Tee lights is more fun than flicking the emergency test key switch every week.

i don't know if you intended this post to be funny, but it got me chuckling. out of interest, how long would you sit in the dark for?

Well i ain't evacuating thats for sure. We do have frequent power cuts here but now i've got mi genny, its straight in the garage , drop out the incoming breaker and back feed using my twin plughead cable, jobs a good unn.

Was funny when leccy man knocked on my door to ask if the power had come back on, thats with genny popping away near his feet.
