A long time lurker this is my first post. By way of introduction I have an interest in automation and smart homes - principally Loxone and Shelly.
Electrically competent to good apprentice level (I'm told). For any of the part L stuff I do 95% of the work and a friendly sparks comes and tests and issues the certs.
Loxone is a superb system for smart homes (or extensions) from scratch though I find the heating and energy bits counter intuitive compared to Heatmiser and Honeywell home.
If you are serious about monitoring home energy you need an IoTaWatt - this will monitor up to 14 circuits many times a second, stores the data locally or in time series database (Influx). While you can buy ready made units the project is open source hardware and software so you can build your own (I didn't).
