Hi
Have completed a partial rewire last week. Think previous wiring was at earliest the 70's more likely 60's. A pre 17th board was in by previous owners of house. (1st floor lights & power & ground floor lights) all the adjoining walls to other rooms were lath & plaster, so went with surface mounted boxes, fixed direct to lath where we couldn't chase out any brick walls. As for switch boxes in bedrooms, these had already been knocked out & shallow metal boxes screwed to lath. These were left in place where accessibility to bring in new cables in old route.
I'm trying to juggle guidance by my boss & ascertain the 17th regs bringing things to date. What would you have done with sockets & switch boxes?

Depends how much damage you want to have made good, if they are happy with surface patresses all well and good, if not they can always have a section of the wall taken out big enough to put an area of plasterboard in and then replastered with a drylining box in it or you could always put a noggin in with a metal box and then made good
