I am about to rewire a mates farm buildings. nothing major just a couple of Sockets and some lights. In total there will be 11, 70w SON lights in the barns. I have worked out that this comes to roughly 3.4A Not having huge experience with this type of lighting will I need a contactor for the starting current of these lights?

Hey.

Easiest way is to break them up into a couple of circuits i.e 6 and 5 or even 4 and 4 and 3. That way not only are you spreading the load but also minimising inconvenience in the event of fault where by if there was a fault on one lamp/circuit then you dont loose all the lights.

You could then use normal switching to operate them.

Cheers.

yeah i thought about that so am going to break them up into 3 banks. was just worried as i know some lights take larger starting currents and have had a few timers melt before where i had to add contactors
