My father in his 80's still drives around in an old van..bless. He is still quite a competent driver considering. Though these days he often puts petrol in rather than diesel, he also drives all round town finding the cheapest rate but again miss reads the sign and thinks he's found somewhere with really cheap diesel only to realise too late that it was in fact unleaded he had seen.

you'd be buggered then when the tank was brim full at £89.95 then.
That just made me chuckle cause not so long ago i filled up to the brim and it finished on an uneven value, so I kept edging the nozzle out until I got to a rounded value, at which point I noticed it overflowing onto the floor :(:D

this is where Ford (and maybe others) have got wize. my lady's Ford diesel has a clever fuel filler that a petrol nozzle won't fit in.

As a biker I would ask anyone (especially truck drivers) NOT TO BRIM DIESEL WHEN FILLING UP.
I do apologise, I'm not normally that careless but I took my eye off what I was doing. to be totally truthful I got distracted by the nice lady filling up next to me :D. I'm a biker myself so i can appreciate your concern! Diesel & oil a biker's nightmare!!

fun watching them wobble though. :D:D:D:D,

You must have failed in life, you went to uni and ended up as a sparks? ;o))))

Yes and no is the honest answer there!! I mainly partied and had far to much fun at uni to be honest! Glad I did it though (env.science) but am also glad I retrained and am self employed now. Don't think I could go back to the hum drum of employment again.

Guess I’m another failure then.

I use the diesel pumps that have a 5, 10 or 20 button on them and they stop at whatever value you set. (Ie, press 20 twice then 10, it stops at £50)
Sainsbury’s I think

Actually, I don’t. I just fill until full.

It used to be easier to stop dead on a tenner or whatever. When the price was less than a quid a litre, the value would go up slower than it does these days.

i never fill mine. why carry all that extra weight? 15 gallons weighs as much as an extra passenger.

Ha! if you think that's bad, try Thailand :)
I worked in Asia for eight years and once bought ten fasteners at 10 Baht each from a small shop. I was bemused to see the cashier get out the calculator, presumably to multiply ten by ten.
I overestimated her. The actual calculation done was 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10. I'm not making this up. I so wanted her to mis-key and charge me 90 Baht.
Yes, and I too grew up doing, in primary school, stuff like a shopper buys five apples at 7d each, how much change from a ten bob note? Then divide £122 7s & 8d between seven people, giving your answer to the nearest grain. Or something like that. :)
