customer currently has a 1 double socket spurred directly from the ring main 32AMCB (piggy backed)in 2.5mm cable directcly under the main consumer unit. He is wanting to add another socket. Note no spare ways in Consumer unit and no other sockets within room. RCD protection present

if the existing spur socket is turned into a fused spur (13amp fuse) then it would be possible to now add an additional socket

as the 2.5mm cable can now only draw a maximim 0f 13amps and is back fused by the cartridge fuse in the fused connection unit as with any fused spur addition

im sure my thinking is correct but you never know

many thanks.

fit a 13A FCU, then you can add as many sockets as you want to the spur, although too many would perhaps lead to the 13A fuse blowing.

You could insert an FCU before the existing socket and then have more sockets after (or before) the first socket so long as they are all fed from the spur..
You can do your replacement of the socket with an FCU and add more sockets afterward.
You could run another piece of 2.5 from the same breaker to another double socket, so you would have two spurs from the CU, there is a limit to this as you would not want to draw too much before the ring, but at the origin is the best place.

you couls also divert 1 leg out of the CU into a socket, then back through more sockets into the cU, thus extending the RFC and negating the need for FCU.
