Phil

woke up this morning to a post card from the police through the letter box. it seems now when someone gets burgled they go around posting the postcards for the rest of the neighbourhood. good idea imo as how many people dont really bother that much with their neighbours. seems the really nice woman 2 doors down had an unwanted visitor at 5am this morning. she lost her husband 2 years ago and is a real nice genuine woman. anyway i went round to see her.

the insurance company were messing her around for the patio doors that had been put through and saying they could not g/tee someone out today to either replace the glass never mind board it.

i managed to sort the glazier out for her so no excess to find and no hit on the insurance policy next year.

who the hell goes round robbing pensioners?? I have offered to fit her some security gates and cameras foc tomorrow as well as sorting some fencing that leads onto a field behind the houses

The ones who go round robbing pensioners are probably the same ones who beat their wives/girlfriends up. Oxygen thieves the bloody lot of them. Hitler and Stalin knew what to do with them, Penal battallions poorly armed but sent in first so the enemy wasted ammunition.

It's just reminded me of something from ages back - I was walking down through an estate, no gear no logo's no nothing, and I spotted this old girl waving frantically at me through her bungalow window. I went over thinking she was in trouble, and she says 'Do you know anything about telly's? Cos mines just gone on the blink and loose women starts in a while'. And with that, to a complete stranger on the street, she let me into her house (walking using a frame) and I sorted out her tuning whilst she told me tales of her grandsons. I let myself out, walking past all the highly nickables in the hall as I did. It's no wonder that some of them fall foul of those less honest. With hindsight I think I should have contacted the local community PSO to go and give her a bit of a pep talk.

Yes I had a similar experience: I must have been about 16, I was walking though a council estate on my way to school and an old lady stopped me and asked if I could help her. She'd locked herself out and wanted me to help her get back in, so she gave me instructions on how to let myself in through the bathroom window (it was a bungalow) so I could open the front door for her.
Given her age and the fact that she knew so much about the property I could only assume it was her house so I did it for her, but I did consider contacting the local constabulary (there were no PCSOs in those days) to speak to her about how she probably shouldn't leave front windows open, and definitely shouldn't stop random 16 year old boys in the street and tell them how to break into her house. I then thought about what had just happened and came to the conclusion it was best not to tell anyone what I had done in case I got into a heap of trouble.

I feel sorry for old people that grew up in a time where anyone in your neighborhood was a friend and front door locks were optional. I think most of them just don't or won't admit to themselves the people are no longer generally like that and can't be trusted.

Several years ago before we bought the house we are in now we had an 82 year old neighbor who was assaulted and robbed. He was ex-forces so I spent a day and took him to the appropriate department and helped him get his firearm license renewed and gave him my spare snub nosed 38 special to look after indefinitely.

had one this evening....got to my mothers house only to find a bloke stood at the door knocking away.....so i thinks "who`s that there then"?...He was only wanting to tell her that the car window had been left open with the car lights on......alright, i know it isn`t in the same bracket as other deeds here but....

Job done. 2 security lights up fitted and more importantly working. 3 cams up. 2 7 foot gates at each end of the alley way done and locked up as and when needed and the back fence pulled down and replaced with a nice 7 footer in palin.

im effing cold though and blathered in mud. :) those new wellies i bought for 3 quid last week have come in useful
